There is indeed a ramen price wall. Ramen price tops out at around 1000 yen ($7.5) and bottoms out around 600 yen. ($4.50) - I often tell my students that my favourite ramen shop costs 1200 yen and they always suck their teeth and tell me how expensive it is., even though it's only an extra couple bucks.
This might be because of the Japanese system of kozukai. (allowance that wives give their husbands for monthly expenses, very limited to cut down on their drinking and whoring)
That being said, good ramen shops will always be in business. They will always have lines out the door. It's the mediocre ones that are suffering.

Ahh you misunderstand. The man works 12 hour days, gives the entire salary to the wife. She then gives him back a small portion for his allowance.

There doesn't really tend to be young, successful bachelors in Japan. They tend to divide into:
a) High school dropouts or people who didn't go to university, working menial or physical jobs, who fuck around
b) University graduates on the career path who get a good job, work their life away, and attempt to get married before 30.
The pressure from family to get married is pretty intense. Could just be selection bias though - a 40 minute English lesson with me costs $60, so I only tend to teach successful people.

We're getting some Whataburgers here in Florida so McDonalds might as well close shop now.
Whataburger is awesome, but know this: they have a policy of making to order which means the drive through is slow as shit. I love the food, but I almost do not consider it fast food anymore.

You gotta toss mad respect at them for the fact they've basically remained unchanged in terms of the product they sell for my entire life. Even chik-fil-a shrank their chicken.
