The thing is, if you have had Shake Shack, you know their burgers aren't THAT huge compared to say, 5 Guys or whatever. That is the shocking thing to me.

New sirloin burgers are shit. To be fair, they're closer to whoppers. they're fine basically. But they're not worth the extra $ and take longer to make than the other burgers at my locations.
The best is still the McDouble (extra onions) for $1.16.

Officer Big Mac is on trial for throwing the Hamburglar in the back of a van without a seat belt on.

I agree that McDonald's needs to just go old school. Drop some prices of their normal shit and just make the menu very simple for food items. I think they actually do well with their McCafe stuff though, so they can keep that. They need to bring back the ol' 7 value meal menu. Make cheeseburgers 59 cents and double cheeseburgers a dollar and let their lower overhead make up the difference. The best time in McD's existence to me was the initial Dollar Menu. Fries, dollar. Double cheeseburger? Dollar. Coke? Dollar. Boom! Get yourself a nice setup for $5.50.
Problem is that even with them being wholesalers and shit, beef prices have gone bananas. In my area I am paying like 6 bucks a lb. for the shitty ground beef. 80/20 is close to 7 bucks. McDonalds doesn't make a lot of profit off the value menu. They probably make tons more on their $1 dollar drinks.

McDoubles are 1.79 here now. The regular cheeseburger is 1.19.

When I go to McDonald's I get either a quarter pounder, double quarter pounder, or a regular/double cheeseburger. Those are hard to fuck up and I am almost always disappointed in their fancy burgers. I am totally not a meat and potatoes kind of guy either, but the basics are all that McDonald's can seem to pull off very well.

I agree, McDouble is my McD's go-to. I went there tonight for dinner and due to the lack of the jalapeno double and the apparent shittiness of this artisan and sirloin garbage they're pushing, I went back to the trusty McDouble.

The best Xbox live name I've ever seen was just "TwoMcDoubles". I'd bet my right arm that dude is in college and living the life. I think I actually like the McDouble more than the double cheeseburger. That extra slice of cheese competes with the delicious tiny onions too much. A single slice is all that is needed.

10 years ago, the owner of a franchise Mcdees told me the cost of a cheeseburger is 23c, 20c was basically just for the bun itself (baked fresh and all that)

I'm guessing the bun is still the biggest cost.

Well, that certainly seems relevant to today's pricing.

Beef prices really haven't altered that much since then - not even doubled - so...
Dunno where you live.. but, it's almost doubled in the last 5 years alone.

The average price of a pound of ground beef climbed to another record high in February, hitting $4.238 per pound, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

In August 2014, the average price for a pound of all types of ground beef topped $4 for the first time, hitting $4.013, according to the BLS.

In September, the average price jumped to $4.096 per pound; in October, the average price climbed to $4.154 per pound; and in November, the average price climbed to $4.201 per pound.

In December, the price declined slightly to $4.156 per pound. In January 2015, ground beef hit $4.235 per pound and in February 2015, according to the latest data from the BLS, the price of ground beef hit the highest level ever recorded of $4.238.

A year ago, in February 2014, the average price for a pound of ground beef was $3.555 per pound. Since then, the average price has increased 19.2 percent in one year.

Five years ago, in February 2010, the average price of a pound of ground beef was $2.277, according to the BLS. The price has since climbed by $1.961 per pound, or an increase of 86.1 percent.

I guess Maryland was insulated from it (we were pretty far from cow country) - it was $4/lb back in 2000 for us. (Non-sale - sale would get to high 2's low 3's) Where it's pretty much stayed. FL prices seem in line with MD, but only been here a short time.

And regardless he's talking about 3c worth of cost - so even sextupling it would still be cheaper than the bun in his anecdote.

Pretty sure the big money maker in all fast food is soda sales. Way back when I worked fast food at a Taco Bell, the manager broke down the cost to me. They charged 99c for a large and the actual cost was 7c, most of which was for the container, straw, and lid. Sure the prices have probably came up a tiny bit since then, but I am absolutely sure the margins are just as crazy. This is why every fast food restaurant tries to upsell you bigger drinks. It's probably a penny's worth more soda for them and charge you 50x that.

From the numbers I remember for our Cafe at Wegman's, around 15c was our cup cost and 3c for liquid. Coffee was apparently a larger margin though.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say a hearty "Fuck Tony!".

Seriously, this fuckin' guy drops the ball on real sugar DP infoz and now he's using his powers to unbalance beef prices across the nation just to help his little fuckbuddy in Maryland and Florida? This shit has got to stop!

Took advantage of free biscuit taco day to try My seldom visited by me Taco Bell
Taco Bell
Killing it with their speciality sodas and slushies
Apple Cider
Sangria Blast Mt Dew
Kickstarter
Starburst themed drinks

Biscuit tacos are trash. The biscuit itself is inferior to literally any other fast food place. It falls apart, bad texture, and mediocre flavor.
Wife liked the sausage one
Bacon cheese one was worthless, served cold? What's that shit. Fell out. The biscuit taco's design is flawed.

With that said, I really enjoyed the spicy honey chicken biscuit taco. The chicken was small, but mine was perfectly cooked and was both crispy and juicy. The biscuit was trash, but the lady said that new chicken comes in both crunch wrap and quesadilla forms that I'll be trying later

The crispy chicken quesadilla is excellent.
