Never heard of Togo's, but Subway is just fucking terrible in every sense of the word. I know the whole mom/pop vs pizza chain thing is sort of debatable, but when it comes to sandwiches, there's no contest around here. The local/non-chain stuff is 1,000 times better than Subway, Quizno, etc.

Pretty much anywhere near a metropolitan "city" is going to have local/non-chain stuff that is a lot better than Subway. Mostly because Subway puts no meat on their sandwiches and what they do put on is questionable. But Subway is usually quite a bit cheaper than local shops (like half the price) so that's why people go there.

Every sandwich place is better than Subway.

I found a Firehouse Subs kind of close to my house, definitely need to check it out soon since a lot of people recommended it.

edit: Just looked at Togo's menu. I hate it when places seemingly add arbitrary numbers to their sandwiches. jimmies rustled.

And you probably get half the calories(ie: no meat) and a much worse sandwich. I remember as a kid, I thought Subway was the shit, though.

Any sub I get at Subway is always like $8 because I like the manly subs like steak and cheese and cool stuff.. and they're always terrible. It's such a terrible place to eat and is really my last resort.

Their Sriracha subs are pretty tasty though. I attribute that 100% to the sriracha sauce and not their quality of ingredients.

I don't have a problem with Subway's cold subs. They're nothing special, but I certainly wouldn't classify them as bad. Any toasted/hot sub, however, is shit because for whatever god damn reason they refuse to install a proper way to cook them in their restaurants. That shitty little pseudo-microwave/toaster does not count, Subway.

The Quiznos conveyor belt through the toaster oven is definitely WAY better than Subways goddamn microwaves. And anymore, Quiznos is no more expensive than Subway. The good subs at both places are like $8-$9

More or less how Burger King cooks their burgers too, with the exception that the conveyor belt goes over an open flame.

This isn't true at all. You think Subway has their own specialized version of the meat they use and that it's somehow lower grade than some of the other shit sandwich shops (even mom and pop)? Cold cuts (sandwich meat) are a funny thing. There are some really... really bad cold cuts you can buy even yourself at a supermarket. Shit is disgusting. I remember going to college in North Country NY. I refused to buy cold cuts there because they had no decent options whatsoever. Subway was actually better than the "local" sandwich shops with one exception. The local IGA.

The only local sandwich shop here doesn't have hot sandwiches and I am really not into cold sandwiches. I will eat one if I have to but I would never choose one over a burger if I was paying more than 5 bucks for it. I don't know if Subway has gotten worse or if my standards have risen because I used to go to Subway often in HS/College but last night was the first time I had been in there in a couple years and I see no reason to go back.

The conveyor places do it right. That's how Potbelly heats up their sandwiches and it's legitAF. Love Potbelly sandwiches. The hot peppers are actually hot.

Some sandwich places slice the meat fresh.. don't ship it in weird containers so when you eat it it tastes like processed diarrhea.

Don't forget that a lot of Subways coldcuts are just various flavors of turkey. Cold Cut Combo? All turkey

SUBWAY COLD CUT COMBO

"turkey-based meat"

the ham is turkey
the salami is turkey
the balogna is turkey(although thats probably an improvement for bologna)

God damn that Togo's place looks awesome, anything like it in Dallas?

I want Firehouse so bad but one sandwich would fuck up my entire day of calorie counting, I hate you guys.

I think it's funny you spelled bologna different twice in the same sentence.. shit is nasty
Hah, I always have to sing the Oscar Meyer song in my head to remember how to spell it. Should have done that the first time I attempted it.

basically what Noodleface and joeboo said, but what if I hate Subway because they are all owned by indian people (this is a joke)? Or the fact that franchisee's don't have offer 5 dollar foot long and other promotions if they don't want to (this is serious)? Luckily when I ate Subway they had one on every block but seriously fuck that shit. Subway is terrible. Potbelly is king.

I grew up on Long Island and worked in SoHo Manhattan for 2.5 years. Trust me... I know good Delis. What I was saying was, Subway is still better than some of the god awful shit you get served in some parts of the country, sadly. I saw this first hand when I went away to college and practically the best sandwich I could get was at Subway. It was fucking terrible.

Also, slicing it "fresh" doesn't really mean shit if it's shit product to begin with. You think Subway's sandwiches would be better if they used the same exact meat but sliced it right before they put it on your sandwich? It wouldn't make any difference.

kudos

The ONLY thing I ever would order at subway is a BLT. It's the only thing that is even somewhat tasty there.

If I'm eating Subway it means:

A: I'm at some sort of 'meeting' function and it was catered.

B: A multitude of females are responsible
