Yeah, but if he was with you in the car he would be way worse off. I would wager that he would be at much greater risk riding in the car with you than sleeping in an empty house.

A few states actually have laws on how old a child must be before they can be legally left alone at home. I think the lowest age is like 8.

My Taco Bell craving just isn't worth the .00001% chance that something happens and my kid now ends up in Child Protective services

That's actually a good point. In an actuarial sense, he's probably safer at home without an adult than he is in a car WITH an adult.

Go get KFC noodle, you're basically saving your kid's life if you do.

My aunt did that in the 80s and got caught. Didn't lose her kids but it was fairly serious. Probably even more so now.
