If you find scallops and stuff to be to squishy grill it.
If you don't like tasty tasty crawfish there's something wrong with you.
Grilled shrimp and scallops are pretty close to ok on the texture part, I'll agree with you there.

The taste of crawfish is fine. The imagery and knowledge of what I'm eating and how doing so is just too much.

I live on the Southeast coast. I have about three dozen places I can go through. But Crawfish season my ass is at one place when we go out.

Yeah I love crawfish and calamri and depending on how its served it can be off putting. Nothing like popping tiny little whole octopi in your mouth. Crawfish are delicious as is crab but I don't often eat something I have to disassemble to do so.

I just pull the tail out of the body though I never eat them whole. I can definitely appreciate texture being off putting. There are several foods that don't really taste bad to me but their texture really turns me off.

Yeah, only hamachi has even a slight fishy flavor. But most of the fish that would be served at sushi places aren't very fishy at all when raw.
People always say shit like this. Every year or two I break down and let friends push me into eating sushi again. This always ends with me gagging and spitting out some nasty, foul piece of raw fish into a napkin. The argument I get a lot is"Well, you've just never had good sushi then!". I've now had sushi on 3 continents and in some pretty decent sushi areas, so I don't think it's the quality of the sushi. Or when people are like"Try this, it's pretty mild"I try whatever the fuck they're pushing on me, followed by me gagging again and thinking"Why, God, why?"

Eel isn't bad, but I didn't expect it to be. Tuna and Mackerel can die in a fire though.

Scallops are part of my "don't like seafood" short list - again I like most seafood - but they're generally a bit too rubbery in taste even fresh for my taste.

My short list is almost all too fishy/rubbery though - don't like MOST squid (not all though) since so many places let it get rubbery, and salmon and sushi because it's always fishy even fresh. But most of the rest is among my faves - blue crabs, red snapper, fish and chips, shrimp, etc. (basically all of them if I'm at a buffet type setting that handled them well I'll gorge until I'm hurting myself - a rare thing for me)

Vegitarian sushi has been good though, but seems to defeat the purpose to me.

Tis the season, just had boiled crawfish and shrimp saturday.

To the people who say they'd never eat crawfish, my wife said the same thing when she moved down about 15 years ago and now its one of her favorite foods, top 3 at least. I was a very picky eater up until recently and I still loved crawfish, especially boiled crawfish, as a kid; its that good.

Salmon can have pretty wild taste differences depending on where it's caught and how it's prepared. Some I love and some I don't.

It really is one of those things you need to get over what the outside looks like and really love its inner beauty. However people who hate spicy food wont like it. The meat texture is perfect. If you have it spiced just right and soak the potatoes and Corn on the cob it can't be beat.

I will say even though I don't like salmon MEAT, salmon SKIN is almost always fucking amazing though. Rarely get the opportunity, but I'll steal the skin off someone else's any day of the week.

Duck is the same way for me.

Wow. Eel is probably my least favorite. It's all chewy and shit unless you get really good quality. Are you getting straight up sashimi or nigiri? Because rolls taste more like everything else they put in it. And the soy sauce/wasabi mix you dump them into.

Maybe your taste buds are just fine tuned to KC BBQ which is why you prefer eel.

It's odd that you mention that. A lot of the sashimi I've had has tasted kinda bland. At least the fish itself. Though, to be fair, a lot of proteins are pretty bland especially when you leave out salt(and maybe pepper).

I can get a pretty good steak for the price of a good sashimi and it totally does not compare even if you ignore the seafood or fish taste aspects.
I think sashimi is bland by design. Many authentic Japanese dishes (even Mexican dishes) are fairly bland to an American palette. Its a common complaint I've heard from Asians about American dishes is they have way too much flavor.

Man, scallops are one of my favorite seafood dishes. I don't think I've ever had crawfish. They aren't really available in south Florida, I don't think. Anyone know of any places down here that serve 'em?

Aware of any place that carries catfish? Usually the two go together.

No. I'll have to look into it. I don't really seek out catfish dishes, though.

Man fried catfish is great. I don't know how far-reaching the franchise is but Toot's has the best fucking fried catfish platter on the planet. And their curly fries dipped in tartar sauce? Forget about it. After eating fried catfish, fried hush puppies and a pound of fries you will feel like death but you'll enjoy the trip getting there.

Yeah, breaded/fried fish is good for the first half and then I regret ordering it.
