You people going to popeye's and getting the tenders are doing it wrong. Their tenders always have been pretty crappy, if you want tenders go to Cane's. The chicken is pretty good and my favorite is the red beans. I'd dip both my biscuit and my cajun battered fries in my red beans, that's where its at. Their mashed potatoes aren't too bad either. People also really like their onion rings, I'm not a huge onion ring guy so they're just alright to me.
That said though Popeye's earned their reputation when they were owned by New Orleans local, Al Copeland. Shit was sooo much better back in the 80's/early 90's, back when the popeye's building's facade looked like charcoal. Chicken pieces were much larger and everything was made fresh. It definitely took a nose dive when that outside company invested money in them mid - late 90's and they've been making bank on the legend that was Popeye's ever since. They recently, like within the past few years, bought the actual rights to the chicken recipe for something like 40m I believe so they don't have to pay royalties to the Copeland family anymore.
