It would make a nice change of pace to have one of these shows have the protagonist in a settled relationship. Done. Not messed with. I feel creating 'tension' and 'conflict' by throwing random others at the protagonist (let alone long, drawn-out shipping) to be lazy writing.
Still, that was a kick ass episode but I will punch someone in the throat if they get Sisco together with a nerdy chick! (more lazy writing).

Loved the Grodd teaser
I was disappointed he didn't speak. Not even erudite and cultured Grodd voice yet, just something super simple to make him look like more than a lab gorilla to the uninitiated. Have him calla Dr. Wells father or something.

Well in the comics, he eventually gets married to Iris. Flash is the clean cut hero who, like they just showed last ep., has a life outside of being a hero.
Flash is willing to run in a hamster wheel for 3 years just to keep Iris safe.

Yeah but isn't that from the horrible Dark Knight Returns follow up, The Dark Knight Strikes Again? No one should bring that up except to condemn it.

Well that is like 1 of like 3 or 4 good parts from The Dark Knight Strikes Again, every dogshit comic has 1 or 2 good panels.

The romance in this show has the same problem as Arrow - the Laurel bullshit doesn't work when Queen is hanging out with Felicity all day. Felicity herself aside, you've got the windowed doctor eye fucking him all day long and they have better chemistry than he does with his blogger BFF. For CW shit these shows are pretty solid overall but missing the mark there is tough when you're married to a pre-existing story.

The scene with Grodd was set 5 years in the past if I recall. Presumably he only gained his heightened intellect as a result of the explosion. Assuming back then he'd been experimented on but was still nothing beyond a smart gorilla.

Right but clearly there was already something special about him based on how they were arguing about him, and Dr. Wells ominous little hinting. So gorilla they are already making smarter gets supercharged by the magic explosion. Instead we just got sad gorilla, meaningless to people who don't already know who Grodd is.

What I don't understand is why Wells wants to nurture him into becoming a fully-developed Flash. Surely it would be in his best interests to just go back and off Barry Allen and then get on with his own superspeed rampage or is it the old, "I want you to suffer before you die and know I'm responsible!" gambit.

Maybe who/what Wells becomes is dependent on Barry becoming the Flash? That's my take.

Nearly everything about this show is making me happy. There was a definite risk in doing an Arrow spinoff as to whether lightning could strike twice. The showrunners seem to have a good handle on things and you just know that Warner Brothers / the CW is looking to see if they can pull a third show off or not.

Remember that Zoom doesn't want to defeat the Flash... he just wants to challenge him to make him better. In this context Wells knowledge of the future fits in well with this. He is trying to change what happens in 10 years when Crisis hits. Timing of that is also pretty interesting as that would coincide nicely both with a potential follow up Justice League TV series that brought all their pieces together and/or a crossover with the DC Movieverse literally bringing in multiple very different Earths

Not sure if you've seen Flashpoint Paradox but Zoom certainly wanted to kill the Flash in that... after making his life a living Hell. He's even happy to die himself if it ensures the Flash dies as well.

When Professor Wells rattled off the list of people who died that night I smiled like a cheshire cat.

Was also quite cool having Clock King show up as a secondary threat, good use of continuity ahead of the big crossover next week.
