what the fuck, it has nothing to do with "representation" at all.

Casting a black guy for a white character is bad for the same reason casting a fat actor for a skinny character is bad.

If 100% of the characters in a particular source material are white, then 100% of the actors cast to play those characters need to be white. Anything else is a failure of casting. The same statement applies if you replace "white" with "redhead" or "midgets" or "amputees".

If people want to cast black actors they should try telling a story about a goddam black character.

I would much rather a director just disregard race, except when an inherent part of the story, rather than go to great pains to get the accurate racial makeup of every character. This is fiction, it's a british story, Dev Patel is british, who cares.
