I've never used h2h (skill is 1) and my block is max skill so i'm going to say you can block while using weapons. Also you have no weird monk weight penalties or armor restrictions or any of that non-sense.

The skill cap stuff is slightly better for the monk sure but the main thing a monk brings other than pulling is Way of Steel and techniques of Master Wu. BST brings the proc AA, slow and pet.

yes and spell casting fury which is a pre-req for Fury of magic...those are spell crit AAs for all casters not specifically clerics. Melee AA for proc's is Ingenuity and then weapon affinity as well
does the Melee AA proc spell dmg depends on caster AA crits as well?

I did war/mnk/clr and the only thing I didn't like was lack of invis/stealth to move around. It was a pure beast at boss killing.
Take the Monk AA Imitate Death and the AA that reduces the cooldown to zero. Instant perfect FD that also hits you with invis. I ran around the entirety of the Hole at 45 safely with it.

yeah all that shit stacks for procs. Ingenuity also helps rogue poisons but I don't think the spell ones do, i'm not sure

Weapon Affinity = increase proc rate
Ingenuity = increase proc crit rate

Be sure to start using the tribute npc by the halfling bank. Give the npc unneeded items for tribute and select up to 5ish buffs. Once done hit alt+u to activate. Faerune (enchanters gift?)is great for see invis and water breathing for example

Having tons of fun, but after following the lguk AA advice im starting to lose my mind. My character has only been played around 20-30 hours old and im 30 with 100 AA, so I can’t complain, but shit, fuck me, I’m ready to move on and go find some gear.

I’m trying to trend away from undead slay AA in anticipation of needing dps for the dragon fights. I saw lots of good suggestions and will probably do my own thing with some crit backstab 32k dmg nonsense, just to see if I can find something by stacking all backstab / giant 2 handers. I’m guessing poison / pally procs are better, but after hitting 20-30k already on some crits, it’s too fun not to try

My Barb Rng/Bst/Rog is an absolute murder machine, albeit a bit squishy at times. Having way more fun than I have any right to playing this. Looking at making an SK/Enc/??? build, the itch to make 10 different alts is real.

Just giving you a hard time lol.

There is a wiki, but it's not super easy to find. When I get home I can link it. It's also very much a work in progress. But there is some useful stuff on it.

Rogues are pretty OP ATM bc they can BS from the front and more importantly their poison ability combined with spell crit AAs puts their dps off the chart.

I'm gonna be honest if you are coming from P99 like I am, there's a ton of stuff that you aren't going to know. The client alone is vastly different, and then there's a ton of custom changes on top of that. Nothing you can't pick up, but you're going to be asking a lot of questions.

Yes, since you will max all of your stats and illusions are super easy to come by, the main considerations for class are: AAs, equip, and spells. There are also some other surprises you are going to encounter, such as all races having frontal stun resist, so ogres' main racial benefit is moot.

There's a "class theory crafting" section on the Discord that I've found to be the most helpful thing when figuring out class combos and which AAs to pick up. Highly suggest you read through that before you get too deep in AAs.

All this may sound complicated, but the server is a blast and frankly it's pretty forgiving if you screw something up. Plus there is a board guild where you can ask the million questions you'll have.
Some interesting items of note, every race gets the frontal stun immunity like Ogres, xp penalties are removed from all races, rogue poisons proc off bow attacks, Rangers get Endless Quiver for free at lvl 1 and an absurd flat damage buff to all bow attacks.

Elf races pretty much get different colored drakes as Warder pets, Dark Elf gets a spider, Froglok gets a mushroom man, Erudite gets kobold, gnomes get a mechanical beast, halflings get sneks, Humans get a mountain lion model which is actually really cool.

If anyone else looks at doing an "archery" build, I'd recommend taking Wiz or another heavy caster to cast nukes between bow attacks. If I wasn't set on having a Warder for a "Hunter" build, I'd probably switch it to Wizard. Not sure how far I'll get soloing raid bosses with this character, but it's been fun as hell to level so far.

I find myself really enjoying the leveling system for gear as well, getting some items to Legendary turns them from lead into gold.

The fact that this doesn't have auto-loot/smart loot functionality really sucks. Old school loot system is pure ass.

Got the War/Mnk/Clr to 25 and having a ton of fun tooling around Mistmoore. I'm really starting to rethink Monk though. I'm just not sure it adds all that much aside from a little bit of extra tankiness. It seems like the pet from Bst would bring more.

Believe it or not, Enchanters make one of the best tanks out there. SK/ENC/ROG (or some other dps) would be amazing. I'm playing a PAL/ENC/MNK now. Kind of wish I had swapped out the PAL for an SK, but then again Slay is an AA printing machine, so I doubt I'll change it up for now.

Chanter abilities Eldritch Rune, Veil of Mind Shadow, and Mind Over Matter give you something like 9k extra hitpoints to work with when tanking bosses. Add to that the normal spell rune you get. Also, Bite of Tashania is an amazing instant AOE aggro grabber. More importantly, it lowers MR for high resist mobs so that your procs will actually land. Then add Dopps on top of that for some of the best DPS (and off tanking) in the game. Chanters are absolute beasts.

Way of Steel on monk will carry you a loooooooong way early. Sounding like it might not scale as the game progress though but as of right now it beats ass.

Does it also get affected by spell DMG and spell crit/dmg AAs?

Its flat 100dmg to punches/kicks. So 2 points in you're doing ~250-300dmg combined with WOOOOOOOOOO's procs giving extra strikes/kicks you crush a lot of stuff.

Yeah, seems like AA is based on /con of the mob and there are a lot fewer reds at level 60.

Sounds like the smart play is grinding a good 200-300 AA in Guk, getting to 50, and then grinding Kunark zones for most of the rest.

just in case anyone is curious... their dinput8.dll does some mq2 checks, and also appears to do a tamper resistance check every time the client sends OP_CAuth. That appears to be a custom op code, so its unknown when client sends that.

the dll will send some info to the server, and the server has this...

switch (buf->unk) {
case 1:
hrs = "Process Game Events Preload";
break;
case 4:
hrs = "Process Game Events";
break;
case 2:
hrs = "EnterZone Preload";
break;
case 5:
hrs = "EnterZone";
break;
case 3:
hrs = "SetGameState Preload";
break;
case 6:
hrs = "SetGameState";
break;
case 7:
hrs = "MQ2Main.dll directly detected";
break;

Interesting stuff here, they did a good job detecting MQ2 outside of primitive exe scanning. Wonder why they chose to check for hook detection when id imagine detecting mq2main is all that is needed. Well, probably to also detect a custom dll that hooks into this without mq2. Guess I dont fully understand what these hooks can be used for.

Because you can code a bunch of on zone shit if you know what to adjust.
