I liked the trailer too, felt like it has a more serious tone than film one.

Which is the improvement needed.

Yeah.. looks pretty good. Been hearing that most people expect this movie to be the best of the three. We'll see but this is coming from someone who really enjoyed the first one. I was pretty forgiving as I felt LotR TT and RotK were far better than FotR. So, I was anticipating The Hobbit to be like a 7ish out of 10 where part two and even three be 9 and 10's.

i liked the first installment. but what really got under my balls is what they did to Gandalf's cousin, Radagast. they turned him into some kind of Disney character. i cringed in almost every scene he was in. and the CGI was so heavy on his scenes. ugh , terrible

I fully expect this next movie to be great, but what I'm really jizzing my pants for is the battle of 5 armies in the third installment.

I really dig the much more serious tone of this one than the previous. My excitement for this just went though the roof. Just like the boner it gave me when Smaug talked.

I think I just might have the voice of the animated Smaug firmly ingrained in my memory.
I always liked the voice (Richard Boone for any lovers of older Westerns) that was used the Rankin/Bass take on the story. It was perfect for an irreverent, belligerent dragon grown fat and contented on the excesses of it's own primacy.

I don't mind them splitting the book into three parts because quite frankly I was tired of everyone bitching about how the LOTR movies weren't word for word. Well now I can tell people to shut their pie-hole and stop being hypocrites.
Padding the material doesn't necessarily mean you get "word for word" out the back end. Plenty of The Hobbit trilogy isn't or won't be word for word. Evangeline Lilly's character (Tauriel) isn't in any of Tolkien's writings. She's a wholly PJ creation.

I'm not one of the book thumping fanboys. I don't mind changes made for the sake of turning an almost unfilmable written work (which the trilogy is) into a more workable form for a motion picture. A lot of PJ's changes are for things other than that though and he shows much better judgement in trimming out material than he does in adding. The Hobbit in particular has been padded out to stretch it into three final trips to the well.

I finally got around to watching it the other night. I enjoyed it overall. I am not a big fan of The Hobbit to the same extent that I am LOTR and the Silmarillion, and I haven't read it in well over a decade, so my memory of it is pretty fuzzy and I'm not all that emotionally attached to it. It was entertaining enough, and despite the length it never really seemed to drag on. Although on the other hand I sincerely doubt I'll watch it more than once or twice, whereas I've watched the LOTR movies probably have a dozen times each.

I look forward to the next ones, for sure, most especially the Battle of the Five Armies and Beorn kicking fucking ass.

Thats supposed to be him? I pictured him like.. twice as tall as a human, and incredibly broad/muscular.
Wasn't he described as.. bilbo could walk between his legs without touching his donger?

I don't like that Beorn. I always pictured him looking more like a man and less like a Geico caveman.

Yeah, do not like. I always pictured him as basically Paul Bunyan, but a werebear.

Does he turn in to a giant fucking bear and fuck up a lot of orcs and shit? Yes? Good enough for me.
