I've said this before but if you like the stuff JP is saying than go through the books it all comes from. Start with The Hero With a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell. That dude loves himself some Joseph Campbell. Read the books he recommends in his Maps of Meaning class (Gulag Archipelago, Road to Wigan Pier, Ordinary Men, etc). Get yourself some Jung. I don't really have much interest in the man any longer but every single thing I've read through having first been exposed to it by JP has been excellent and a very worthwhile use of my time.
This is the way. Also if you want to listen to JP, and not barf, stick to his lectures and skip all interviews and discussions.

I think JP is starting to crack. You can’t have all that knowledge of human behavior in your head and not have anxiety as you watch society murder itself live on Twitter.

Did you miss his almost fatal breakdown and absence for almost two years?

Admittedly, the clues were there for a long time that he was due some type of catastrophe. Dude was plucked from obscurity to simultaneously become Jesus/Dad/Hitler depending on your view, he said he felt like he was riding the crest of a wave and wwould eventually fall off, that his wife organised his life (order and chaos) and that he was the only woman he'd ever been with. He capitalised on his fame and toured the world to sell out stadiums whilst doing podcasts, interviews regardless of publication many of which were hostile or downright aggressive. He also had family friends writing hit pieces. Dude is legit one of the emblematic figures of the culture war because just mentioning his name provokes a response.

Also, by his own admission he was obsessed with 20th century history and nuclear
Holocaust, so he wasn't exactly sane

So when his wife got diagnosed with terminal illness he collapsed mentally

I find it odd that wokeists use his breakdown as a way to discredit him, like have you no compassion?

I need to read Road to Wigan Pier. I'm actually from Wigan and grew up walking distance from the pier.

The Pier itself is a 1 foot stretch of railway track that goes over the canal for loading coal off barges to burn in the neighbouring textile mill. It's a joke as piers became better known as seaside attractions.

They used to have a museum there about how awful it was back then, but it shut down a while ago. They even had some working textile machines and the steam engine that ran them.

I somehow managed to move to an even worse place, The Black Country, which was literally the inspiration for Mordor. This coal mining stuff is in my blood, the entire family tree back to the 1801 census were miners.

Anyway it's all a good example of how most white people didn't and don't have any privilege.

I need to read Road to Wigan Pier.

It's probably have a little story about coal mining and then half explaining why socialists claim to support the working class but really just hate rich people. Which is true. They don't love the poor they hate the wealthy.

That's more the case. They look at their lives and resent those more successful than they are. This is especially pronounced in the pseudo-bourgeoisie intellectual class we have in places like higher education. How can the system be said to be anything but a disaster if someone such as I am not atop it?

JP has great angles on things, but he’s so scatterbrained and simultaneously matter of fact in his delivery that he becomes a bit much.

nevertheless- I don’t need perfection to learn lessons and I think he’s got good ones despite his quite obvious insanity

As you wish

"We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators," a Spotify spokesman said. The company has detailed content policies in place and has removed over 20,000 Covid-related podcast episodes since the start of the pandemic, he added.

I gave up after an hour, I don't want to hear what a Psychologist thinks about climate change.

Joe was going hard on asking JP to provide proof for what he was saying too, which is good but slowed down the conversation and makes me think that Joe has a handler now.

Joe doesn't have a handler. He is just smart enough to know that he has a responsibility. His audience is massive and the scrutiny he is under is intense. He wants to be taken seriously and have credibility... unlike the shit-for-brains at CNN.

I get what Jordan was saying (at least what I heard in the first 10-15 mins), but he was doing such a shit job of explaining it.

criticisms about Climate change models isn't JUST about the variables they're including in their model (which each have their own immense amount of error and variability). They're also about the variables that aren't included.

I don't know the best way to make that click for people that don't understand that right out of the gate, but coming up with an estimate/budget for huge infrastructure jobs is what I think of.

The problem is that no model is ever going to be perfect, so do we just discard that technique and stop making predictions based on the data we do have?

But wait JP is in favour of IQ and personality testing which are... models.

I love the guy but this isn't an area for him to get involved with and he was wise pre illness to avoid it.

My personal belief is that we shouldn't be polluting since we can't predict what the polutants will do. So thats stopping CFCs, chemical pollution, greenhouse gasses and plastics anyway, regardless of the predicted magnitude of the threat.

My personal belief is that we should firebomb China and India before we even discuss the environmental impact of the 2x steaks i eat every month.
