I just got Uncharted in from gamefly and its ok. I found the controls to be a bit wonky at times as the game play but overall the game is pretty enjoyable. Like the story. Wanted to play the first through the third in order and glad I'm doing it. As old as the first one is its aged ok.

I never cared much for Uncharted 1, but 2 and 3 were great. Nolan North actually voices a pretty important character in The Last of Us.
Oh wow, didn't realize that was him voicing (and apparently mocap'ing too) him. So drastically different than his Drake voice IMO.

He does a couple of vastly different voices for video game characters. He does Cobblepot for Arkham City, too. The guy is even in Star Trek Into Darkness.

Still not played the Batman games yet - even own them on PC but not gotten around to it - will have to keep an ear out.

A travesty, my friend. Make time for them!

tl;dr: 9.5/10. Instant classic and a must play.

I just beat The Last of Us tonight. Took me several days to beat it because I wanted my wife to experience it with me. It was fun watching how excited she was to see what happened next. They did an excellent job with the storytelling. I daresay this game does what Bioshock Infinite aspired to do. Everything about it was perfect - the pacing, the art, the animations, the music, the sounds, everything. I did run into the occasional bug where I didn't hit a trigger or I climbed up a ledge that I wasn't supposed to be able to climb, but the bugs were few and far between.

The cinematography and motion capture really shine in this game. There are so many subtle gestures and facial expressions. It's easy to forget you're playing a video game and not watching real actors.

The beginning was really rough for me on hard. The first time you encounter a pack of runners + a clicker probably killed me 15-20 times. I was just epicly failing. I ended up putting it on normal for that one checkpoint and missed out on being able to do NG+ on hard =/

Anyway, if you're on the fence about this for whatever reason, it's more than worth the full sticker price for the single player alone. I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I hear it's pretty good.

Ya I just beat this today. I gotta admit, it just kept getting better and better. I even found myself continuing to play the other night because of that 'continuing to get better the longer you play' ... to where I looked and it was a little after 4am before I even looked at the clock. The only thing I do not like about the online thing (well.. the only thing I CAN dislike without trying it) is that it costs an additional 9.99 on the playstation network which is think is a friggin ripoff after I already spent 65 bucks on the darn game.

But ya.. if you are on the fence. Best game I have played this year. The 20 min. prologue alone is better story, acting and 'you will not forget this' moment than most movies I have this year.

I did the same thing with my wife: I think she was hooked from the minute the prologue ended. She ended up watching me play almost the entire game, and she's not that big of a video game fan.

Did you get the game used or something? There's an online pass code inside the case. It's on the back of the insert that says "The Last of Us ONLINE PASS".

I thought they handled dead children really well. They didn't overuse them for shock value, and they were sensitive about it when they did show it (under sheets, "THEY DIDN'T SUFFER" written on the floor, etc). It added more emotional complexity to the game without being heavy handed.

I think they had some packing errors too - I had to contact them for mine, since mine didn't have it included - they were cool about supplying it when I contacted them about the error though. (Of course it was literally Day One for it - so it was a given that I wasn't fibbing)

wife and i finished uncharted 2/3 this weekend, 3 was def better than 2, actually loads better, you really seem to have the characters connect in 3, where in 2, it was blah. but if the last of us is a 10/10 uncharted 3 is a 8 and uncharted 2 is a 7. but now wife wants to replay last of us on hard since she got so much experience with aiming in uncharted 2/3.

Eh, I'd skip hard and go for Survival if you've got it unlocked - it's not THAT much harder than hard, and might as well knock out the trophy. Main difficulty addition is the loss of the "Hearing Mode"

I was a bit disappointed in Uncharted 3. It has its moments, but it felt too much like they slapped a story on top of a bunch of set pieces to artificially tie them together (that's probably also how they worked for N?2, but it flows better). Some of the set pieces are great though, but some are also pretty shark-jumpy (like the 987245 guys with rocket launchers in the syrian (?) fortress). Also, Kathmandu and the nepalese village reach a level of awesome that Uncharted 3 never touches.

Finished the game over the weekend. I think it goes into my personal top 10 of all time.

Am i the only one who hopes they do NOT do a sequel? It seems like, especially this generation, that some series have suffered from constantly pouring out sequels just make a buck or satisfy fans. I think they could come up with some good stories within the world of The Last of Us, but i really feel like Joel and Ellie's story was told, and anything involving them would ultimately end up making it worse.

For the ending, i felt that Ellie knew exactly what Joel did and why he did it and her question at the end was more of a validation that it was "ok", and something that they both could live with. the Fireflies were barely any better than the other asshole groups in the game =)

Talking about the end
Fucking loved the end. After Joel falls onto the re-bar, the game just gets awesome. Getting to play as Ellie with that OP as fuck rifle and knife was just awesome. Then being a ninja in the fucking snow...god damn. And when Joel wakes up...the rampage...I fought my way into the operating room and lit those motherfuckers up with the flamethrower until they were extra crispy. I can see why the ending would confuse and feel weak to some people though. It's partially about Joel being selfish, but also about how he never thought he could connect with someone since the loss of his daughter. After spending a year with her he finally realizes he cares for her a great deal (after she saves his life and he saves her from the cannibals), and won't let anything happen to her. He'll protect her any way he can. Killing and lying be damned. I was just in pure awe of how fucking BRUTAL shit got at the end. Shooting that firefly in the dick, popping black bitch in the forehead...god damn.

I never considered the possibility of her actually knowing and just seeking validation. I just assumed she was ready to scream at Joel if he told her it wasn't true. That actually makes me like the ending way more.

You can hear it in her tone that she at the least suspects
I'm not sure how you could read it any other way, to be honest. If she didn't suspect, she wouldn't have asked the question...

The ending was perfect, and I do hope they have a sequel if they can make it as awesome as the original.

Something that fascinated me throughout the whole game was the sheer number of unique art assets. I wonder how much they spent making this game? Some textures could've been pictures with a photoshop filter (posted signs, etc), but there were so many detailed environmental pieces that were completely unique, both texturally and physically (likeeye wash stations), that it boggled my mind thinking about how much all those items would've ultimately cost.

Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere was overwhelmingly satisfying, and I'm not complaining at all. The reason we rarely see games with this number of art assets is because of the cost. You either need tons of art guys or a few art guys working for a long time. Either way you're paying a salary.

To be fair, I bet most of the art assets could've been largely done by scanning tech with just a slight pass to "dirty them up" - while its amazing what they did, I'm sure there's at least some reasonable shortcuts when you're making one based on real objects. But even when it comes to stuff like posters and product art those are no doubt completely hand-done and there was tons as well. [Like literally every product is greeked from something - the Tide looks like Tide but it's something else, the Beatles posters, etc.]
