I wish someone made a documentary on "worst game management ever", could be easily a 10-part series.

The blizzcon diablo thing, fallout 76, ME3, this shit, star citizen, ... some amazing things have been done. It would be like Tiger king to the general audience. Normal people can't imagine this kind of shit.

The star citizen one could be about Christ Roberts marrying an ex-pornstar, and making her head of marking/PR, while buying a yacht and sending millions to himself and his wife despite the game being in alpha state after 8 years.

Would be good TV.

The memes are the best part of this, almost worth having a game fail this bad. Fucking Druckmann should never work again after this, hopefully, for face fucking a golden IP this hard. I am not exactly thrilled at how much Troy Baker has run cover on this, given his track record for excellence and history of input into these kinds of projects, to be honest.

I think someone here said he’d be fucking insufferable now with Twitter. They’re right. The dude created a large part of my growing up soundtrack and captured Gen X and that weird not Gen X not Millennial malaise. I’ll always think he was a talented song writer and a lot like Dylan in that he was, by all accounts, a shitty singer that had a voice and delivery that was iconic

But if Twitter has been there for him to spout his leftist shit, the man would have had something to live for.

It’s interesting that software development is essentially a slave industry. They pay no mind to fatigue and it’s effects on quality of work. Clearly their profit per time worked is very poor relative to other industries. I’ve never seen work like that including 6 years in tech R&D that also has “crunch.”

I think games are tough. They have movie level budgets without the longevity of revenue. They quickly become a commodity. They don’t have the level of market that movies do. They’re probably too cheap frankly.

Watching the footage it seems that this leak did possibly come from a Dev and not some outsourced QA/localization house. Various tools shown, various dates and diff builds all filmed while playing.

You go into it as a junior/grad or whatever knowing it's going to be long hours and a shit job for a couple of years at least. On the bright side even the worst places offices are decent and you usually get some perks along with the job. It's not even comparable to a job where you're literally breaking your back for minimum wage 12-15 hours a day as you need the OT to provide for your family and plenty of people do that without whining about "crunch".

They could look after people better but the same could be said for 90% of the jobs out there.

Only game development is like this. I've been a dev 7 years now working in financial software then monitoring software. None of this massive crunch time shit that game industry works on exists. You're also paid way better overall.

I applied to an EA job as a staff Software Engineer years ago. When talking compensation I asked for 10% above my salary at the time. The recruiter came back and told me that they wanted people who wanted to work there. Then shot back with a salary 20% under what I was already getting. From what I hear over the years the entire game industry is like this.
