EB was sort of the same way in late 90s. If the game was undamaged looking, we would reshrink wrap it and put it back on the shelf. Later on it became trade in only. I used to stop people from returning Everquest though after they installed it and Kept playing it. I had the phone number for Verant’s account cancellation line and would tell them I would complete the return once I verified they had disabled the account. I lost track of how many people said “nevermind...” after doing that lol

Yeah, same with Babbage's. We just re-shrinked wrapped it and put it back on the shelf as new. I think they eventually had a lawsuit which put an end to that? I was gone by that point. But I know the return policy became hardcore sometime in the early 2000s.

Yeah I remember when people would come into Software Etc and purchase 300-400 dollar packages - like Peach Tree or C+, etc. Would come back the next day and get a refund. We had a great check out program though. So I just copied games over and would shrink wrap them back up and sell them as new. Lol. Software Etc finally got sued for selling used games as new I guess at some point and that stopped. The employee check out program was awesome though.

who's alt is this? I'm highly suspicious of talkative new people.
Ya'll some paranoid motherfuckers. I've been dealing with the same sorts of anti-social personalities on internet forums since 1998. You think I'm going to mince words around a new group just because I'm not yet familiar with which variety of hentai they indulge in?

whoa, don't break your feminine penis swinging it like that.
Clearly not Vanessa Vanessa , post is 17 paragraphs too shot and lacks references to God and gender dysphoria in children. Also, since it's Tuesday and Monday was picking guys up at bars day, today is spent treating that destroyed rectum and looking for homeless middle aged women with teenage kids to house

That's awesome lol :)

I used to know two guys, one was paying for the others EQ sub.

The guy playing EQ went ultra-hardcore, and got a top 5 char geared serverwide. Obviously he was unemployed, so he just stopped paying his friend for the sub.

After about 18 months, the guy paying contacted customer service, had the password & email changed, and took the account hostage over less then 300$.

Other guy couldn't pay for it and lost his char with at least 2000 hours played.

He rerolled as soon as he found someone with a visa.

If true that account was worth way more than $300. Pretty sure when I decided to quit back in dragons of norrath I got like $1500 for my rogue. I was probably top 5 back then too and almost definitely the top geared /AAd that wasn’t in Hoss

He sold it for 2500$ within the month.

When I was hardcore I bought 2 top end geared chars for 3k each and it felt like a steal. This was quite late in EQ, relatively.

Chars with epic 2.5, max AA, all possible flags, and all relevant legacy items. I still own my 3-box which is of course hilariously outdated.

Good times, looking back I'd do it again without a doubt.

If had sold at height of Velious, I would have made bank. GM event title, only sleeper robe on server, all 3 vulak monk loots, primals, etc. Not an exaggeration to say I was probably one of the best equipped monks in the game at the time.

I could have gotten a bit more for mine but wanted to sell it fast. Also would have gotten a lot more if I’d have sold earlier.

I'm a Euro and only wanted to buy from people that I could trust, so that kind of limited the market.

Both were guildies that retired and I had known for years.

From Gamestop/Babbages/EB games, to Everquest and account selling, this thread is now a lot better than talking about this travesty of a game about to hit. If we had Duppin show up for a quick F16 bombing threat it would be 100% Hall of Fame material.

Is no one here gonna mention how fucked up IGN's rating scale is? 10/10 is not perfect. Okay, got'cha. 5/10 is not average. wat?

So... Lemme get this straight... IGN will give a game an 8/10 even though it's a dumpster fire, but it's pumped out by a AAA company, unless it's a complete cluster fuck like Fallout 76.

Wait... wat?

I mean, that just reeks of elitism and superficial boosting of scores.

Fuck I got offered $4k for my hunter end of Vanilla WoW. 9/9 tier 3, xbow off Kel'thuzad. Part of me thinks I should have just taken the money.

it makes sense in a fast and loose kind of way. there's no perfect game, but there's some pretty dang close ones. and like that video with alanah pearce said, no one is going to waste time reviewing a bunch of games that are 1's and 2's. a 7 isn't an average of ALL games, it's an average of the games that are worth playing.

and honestly, if they DID start reviewing a bunch of 1's and 2's you'd end up with the average game being a lot closer to probably 3 or 4. there are a TON of super crappy games out there.

Isn't it this way with all game reviewers? I would be fucking astounded if there was a reviewer whose average score was anywhere close to a 5. No one has the balls to give a major studio release anything less than an 8.

Just think of it as affirmative action, and game devs are all joggers.
