I've had the master sword for like 4 days and I just found out you could shoot a range attack from it using R when you're at full health. Made it much more useful.

I haven't played every installment of the series, but I'm fairly certain the Master Sword doing a ranged attack at full health has been in every Zelda I've played.

Not in OOT - its mostly been a 2d thing, I forgot if any of the other 3d's have it- I thought this was the first.

Also because of how the ranged attack arcs - you can troll/cheese fights behind objects fairly easy with it with a little practice how it kinda floats.

can I turn off the damn handheld aiming?! I just want to use the analog stick!!

Yeah, it's in the options. Or at least it is for Wii U.

I was playing with Pro controller(albeit a 3rd party knockoff one) and the analog stick aiming was terrible and I had to switch back to the Wii U pad, using the motion control. I'm not sure if that was a symptom of my controller or the game, though.

Use both? I use the analogue stick to get me roughly in position then use motion controls to pinpoint my aim?

So progressed yesterday! Managed to keep on track from the tower and get to the Zora town (I know I am not far). Said to meet the Prince on the bride to the left, but... what is to the right I thought? 7 hours later I warped back to the town... Unlocked 2 maps, did several shrines and found the second greater fairy though I still use newbie armor. Also managed to kill a blue centaur that was a total wtf moment. Oh, a mob I haven't seen... It went !, then charged and went insane. Broke all shields and killed it with my last weapon. First try though! Did not die.

New negatives
- Food creation. WTB recipe book that lets me craft repeated items.
- General inventory management.
- Dodge mechanic.

It might end up my GOTY, its already beaten Nioh. I expect only Persona 5 or perhaps the South Park game can beat it for me. But it does not deserve a 100 or 10/10 review. Not every aspect of it is perfect, so makes no sense to rate it as such. Frame drops also become VERY noticeable on the WiiU in woods/areas with many objects. Had a few instances were the game also freezes up for a few seconds in fights in woods.

Yeah but it normally comes out of the normal attack and not some weird aimed range mechanic normally used to throw away weapons.

Frame rate drops aren't a big thing on the Switch in handheld mode, but are extremely noticeable docked to my television. It's jarring to say the least.

Put in some more time with this yesterday, it's definitely picking up and more enjoyable once I'd gotten off the plateau but still not really feeling it. Might throw this and the switch on Ebay or something, though having never played Mario Kart 8 I'm tempted to keep it for that game (as I haven't played a MK game since N64!) and hear it's great. Good thing is the game itself is physical, so I can get a little dough from Gamestop when I trade in Horizon and Nioh this week.

If you fellas are hurting for easy to obtain full health + 4 or 5 extra heart food:

go to Faron Tower:
faron-tower-zelda-botw.jpg

Jump North off the tower, you'll see a little cliff with trees across a little gap.
On the trees are "Hearty Durians"
Collect all of the durian you can find on this ledge, if you go to the ledge above this one (to the north, behind 2 statues), theres more up there and a mini boss that will drop weapons (late game he was giving me Royal weapons)
Cook these as singles
each one will give you a full heal + 4 extra health
The first time i did this i got about 20 durians

That is what I do with the Wii U controller. There are no motion controls with the Pro controller.

There is one thing I hate about this game even though I haven't played it yet : it makes me want to buy a fucking Switch even though I don't want to support Nintendo bullshit and still haven't even really started on Horizon and Nier...

Yeah, that's my problem, too. I do have the Wii U version, and while it's "close enough" to the Switch in terms of pure image quality, the frame rate drops on the Wii U can get brutally bad. Whenever I play it I find myself wishing I had a Switch, but I don't want to buy a god damn Switch. I'm sure it's wishful thinking to expect a Wii U patch that improves the frame rate.

I'd have a Wii U I'd play that I guess, but I do not even have that option.

re: WiiU framerates

Its never cut when it mattered- a few high density scenes of grass and far vistas and stuff and some other stuff you could tell a fps drop but it clears up fairly fast. I have had some combat pauses and lag - but unlike many other games or mmo's the AI/Badguys/Worldaroundyou also actually paused - so you are not suddenly at a disadvantage where the bad guys skip ahead or have beat on you "while you were paused/lagged" so it was not that bad in terms of playability

Yeah, wii u framerate has never actually caused a death or anything. It's only in towns where it's pretty bad, and even then you don't really have to do anything combat related in towns so I just bear with it. Just running around and exploring, which is like 80% of the game, has been fine.

I agree. For the person who only ever plays console games and has no understanding of framerates/framedrops, the impact is extremely minimal. Hell, they probably wouldn't even understand why we're complaining.

Speaking for myself, I think the problem is that we know how well the game COULD run IF it were on better hardware. It's by no means unplayable (as evidenced by the lack of even a single person claiming they've put the game down because of FPS/performance issues).

The perception of slowdown is exacerbated a bit because of Nintendo's odd choice to pause for a fraction of a second every time you land a hit.

I've seen a few news today that said that the Switch had a firmware issue causing a drain on GPU ressources and that it could be the source of the fps drop.

Let's hope it's corrected quickly and it fixes it for Zelda in docked mode.

Granted, I don't have a trained eye for frame rate drops, but the only time it's been super noticeable for me on the WiiU has been when shit explodes—igniting red barrels, maybe a little when weapons break, but that's about it.
