Probably not. In the books he got those golden hands, but in a TV show with budget concerns, I see them going more metaphorical than literal. Same reason they didn't chop off Tyrion's nose in Game of Thrones ;p

So, i love this show, but im looking for things to read and was considering picking up the books. however, that they will be too similar early on and ill get bored. are the books different enough, specifically to where the show is, that i wont get bored OR are they close enough i could skip the first one?

Hope the Fox god rapes her again, loved the look of anguish on her face as he was leaving his potion of power between her legs.

I'd easily call this show the best surprise of 2016. The Beast mothing around at the end of episode one is what kept me going and boy am I glad I did.

The whole magicked back to life thing sort of irritated me but other than that, interesting start of the season. Felt a little rushed to get things back on track but not having read the books I'm hopeful it will be okay.

Was it confirmed anywhere that they were actually dead? I thought they were just knocked out/possibly dying from some internal bleeding or some shit.

Episode felt a bit all over the place - they're definitely going way off script, but I guess it paid off in S1. Some of the stuff they're doing has potential(Martin + Julia is already really fun). Most of the Fillory stuff felt a bit rushed. Penny loses his hands, then gets them back, then they're broken so he starts losing them or what's going on again? All in one episode. Probably a budget consideration like someone said, but still. With the way they've re-characterized Penny and made him kinda likeable and badass, his story from the books probably wouldn't work.

Also wikipedia only has 7 episodes listed for the season, really hope that's only an omission.

(and yeah, whoever asked, read the books - they're different enough from the series that you won't be bored or spoil the show, but similar enough that if you enjoy one, you'll probably enjoy the other. Book 1 is a bit rough, but still worth reading, and books 2/3 are excellent).

Alice at least has some A+ titties. I'm usually more of a B-cup guy, but it's impossible to not be impressed by those. The others just seem like generic hot actress chicks to me, but w/e.

I had a long trip last week and listened to the first book on tape. It is horra-bad. So bad that I kinda wonder how this show became a thing. The first season is 100 percent better paced than the first book. The book filled in a few niche details for me but on the whole, Yech. All the changes they made from the book to the series I am 100% behind.

I know right! No idea what it is with her as I never get worked up over actresses but Julia's character is addicting.

Yeah no shit - Alice might have have world class titties, but she's also a bit of a headcase, even compared to the rest of the crew.

On the other hand, a week of sex/drugs/magic on Ibiza with Eliot and Margo would pretty much be the penultimate party experience - hard to blame whatshisname for wanting to tag along.

Thinking about it, I'm still trying to figure out if their inability to pronounce "Ibiza" is crappy acting or genius characterisation, since it is exactly what you'd expect from a bunch of 20-something rich New York kids.

TBH Julia just doesn't stand out for me. I'd take Kady or even Marina over Julia - both of them are crazy enough that they have to be wild in the sack. Although at least TV Julia is less of a bitch than book Julia.

Lol, the Beast is an epic troll. Nice episode, although preview for next week makes it seem like they may be headed towards the book 1 ending ASAP.

The first episode was definitely hit and miss, but I think S1 was good enough that it's worth getting a decent way into the season before coming to conclusions.
