I saw Opeth/Katatonia a couple months ago for Katatonia (tbh, really havent listened to either that much in a while) and it wasn't even fair how much better Opeth was live. At least, when they weren't playing their new shit.
Most of the stuff I'd go for as rec's (Diabolical Masquerade, Edge of Sanity, etc) were already mentioned. Since you've already got Crimson and Death's Design may as well go for the trifecta:

So I know a lot of people love him, but personally I think Akerfeldt's banter is pretty lame. Dude, to me at least, just seems awkward on stage.

Word. I couldn't remember if I saw people here talking about it or not. I browse mostly at work with images/videos off so I miss most of whatever discussion centers around youtube posts.
Cool that people like it though. Great release.
I know there are quite a few black metallers on here. I'm not a huge fan of the genre, but I have an open mind and like some of the more well known acts. I was listening to Wintersun's album on youtube while at work and came across this band, Xanthochroid. They remind me a LOT of later Emperor (IX Equilibrium, Prometheus) and Wintersun with some Dimmu (mainly the cleaner vocals) and Opeth touches as well. I was definitely impressed so thought i'd share.

Can't go wrong with a Wintersun cover.. literally best band ever, if only they could write faster.
I can almost never get into black metal and it's subgenres other than a select few bands but I gotta say I'm really liking Xanthochroid. Helps that Wintersun is one of my top3 and they did an 8bit nerd cover on their EP but they're really fucking good. If those 2 guys in the video can pull off vocals like that live then I REALLY like them. They're from LA, here's hoping they can scrape together some kind of NA tour at some point - I'd go see them.
On another note, FUCK YEAH another 10 days and I'm seeing Summer Slaughter Tour (specifically Animals as Leaders, Periphery and The Ocean) followed by At The Gates and Wintersun - 3 shows in 4 days. If you haven't heard of The Ocean yet, check out Precambrian and their new album Pelagial. I hadn't heard of them before Pelagial but I wish they were more popular in NA so they could tour here.
