Yeah, because back in 1970s the news cycle and consumption of info was entirely different and significant longer. You had 5-6 sources of info, typically 2 TV channels, 2 newspapers and 1-2 radio stations. These days you have hundreds all eager to scoop the next one.

Did Snowden reveal something else last night or something? Because the documents he released along with the followup information we have gotten about that program do none of the things Obama mentioned int hat little excerpt you provided.

This isn't an either/or thing though. We should definitely reevaluate our national policy, I don't like the idea of this program based on the information we have now. And Snowden should also go to jail.

Snowden took a position to gain access to as much information as possible to use it to his own advantage betraying his oath and trust. He should be punished for his actions.

He's not some Jamie Lannister betraying his oath to kill the mad king. Maybe in his head he though he was going to slay the black prince who knows, it still does not excuse his actions.
