I find Yahoo articles comment sections to be highly life affirming examples of humanity at its best.
The cali shooting comments make me want to take all of my internet devices, put them in a pile and set them on fire. Holy crap the unabomber was right.

The only "truth" is almost everyone with a brain in this country is socially liberal and fiscally conservative.
If only we could find some republican--or hell--even libertarian candidates that actually fit this description.

Currently we have the socially liberal, slightly more fiscally conservative party squaring off against the socially moronic, less fiscally conservative party. It's not a hard choice. It's actually kind of insulting that people like Merlin still attempt to drape themselves under the conservative flag. In reality, people like Araysar and I are thetrueconservatives.

That's why we can post in this thread and Merlin can't.

I'm really a true liberal, in the cliasscal liberalism/social liberalism style of Noam Chomsky.

I only support the Democrats in US because they are farthest party to the left on the US political spectrum that is still viable. In rest of the world, they would be considered conservatives, as most of us with a passing understanding of politics already know.

I would gladly veer even more to the left if there was a political party that could put together a comprehensive platform instead of mish-mash of some idiotic burned out hippy wish lists; "Heeey maaan, lets, like spend $1 trillion on ecology"

Its interesting they feel a 27% shift in Dems is worth titling the article for - while there's a 23/24% shift in R's that isn't worth mentioning on basically equal ground. Not to mention that independents are actually cool with it as a majority now.

Given the source, not very interesting. They're grabbing their market's attention. The rest of the story is even-handed, despite starting with the whole Democrat part. They should have used the chart title or something similar.

Could it be that sharing a party ID with whoever's in the White House is a better indicator of one's opinion on major civil liberties issues, than, say principle? I AM REALLY STARTING TO THINK SO.
Besides, the guy admits to being a moron by wondering if party affiliation has any effect on opinion.

Not for surveillance, just don't see what we do about it. No election is about surveillance. Both parties are for the wiretapping BS in general. Who do you turn to? The alleged party of small government or the alleged party of civil liberties? You have to go outside the mainstream political parties who have a mathematically insignificant effect due to how we award ballots.

I'm pretty cool with drones and cameras, but not pre-emptive taps on every digital transmission in existence in case they're useful later. This massive record and store set-up is like taking drug policy out of the hands of the voters with the scheduling bureaucratic voodoo. They no longer need warrants to look at you. They may still officially need warrants to look at their own data of you, but I don't trust them to adhere to that.

Do people on the left EVER say stupid things about women's bodies like the guys on the right do? I have literally never heard of an instance of it from a Democrat, but that might be a reporting gap rather than the reality?

I honestly don't know.

Bodies? no I'd say in general conservatives kinda fear the sexual influence of woman because it's seen as cheap way to sway influence, while liberals encourage it for political gain. if they tell woman that raising children isn't a noble goal in life is that wrong? I think if you look at society as a whole we have broken a large part of the family connection and we shouldn't be relying on television and the state to raise children.

So in other words, it IS only conservatives that say ridiculous things about women's health and sexuality that make it clear that they're stuck in the 50s.
