Pro tip: don't ever look at a picture of yourself playing guitar. You won't be pleased with the stupid faces you make without realizing it.

Sounds nice, although at first I thought you were posting something about an actual meat smoker in the wrong thread.

Always get a setup if you change string gauge for sure. It would be best if you could learn to do it yourself; I've paid upwards of $65 and had pieces falling off my guitar when I brought it home. That was the last time I ever paid anyone to touch my guitar for anything.

This thread is now "The Duppin Guitar Thread Because Most Other Threads On This Board Suck".

Traded in my Blues Junior today for a '74 Vibro Champ. I'm a vintage amp convert.

Just put an order in on a Verellen Meat Smoke and I'm beyond excited.

A buddy of mine has one of those and absolutely loves it. I've never heard one, but from what I understand it's a monster.

Nice silver face Vibro Champ! I've got a '66 Vibro Champ myself. Great tube amp for an inner-city apartment.

Careful with that axe, Eugene. That's a long, expensive road once you start down it, haha.

Congrats dude, your setup looks great.

Oh hell yes. The shop I go to for my lessons has a lot of things in the five to six figure range, guitar wise. I'm staying far away from that stuff for a while.

I'm pretty happy with my current tone, now I just have to start sucking less.

Pff, a 5 figure guitar isn't even worth playing. There's no reason to own something like that.

My $1000 ESP is pretty baller. Les Pauls are routinely in the $2500ish range, and I'd love to sit down with one for awhile to see if there's as big of a difference between a $2500 guitar and a $1000 guitar as there is between a $1000 guitar and a $500. But I doubt it. I can definitely see dropping a grand on an instrument, the quality is really there over a low to mid range guitar, but I don't know what the fuck could possibly make something worth more than that. Maybe I'm wrong, but if you have those kinds of guitars, you've either got more money than you can spend, or you're being given guitars for an endorsement deal.

There are certainly $2500 guitars that have a large noticeable difference from $1000 guitars - especially in the acoustic realm. I'm talking about the $50,000 guitars that look cheesy and awful because they they have a pure silver dragon inlay. I understand '54 strat being that price due to rarity. Or if it was a used onstage guitar.

Does anyone have tips on super fast sweeping? I'm trying to get the intro part of One down but I simply cannot find the speed/sound to do this fast sweep:

e--------14---19--------------
B------15--------------------
G----16----------------------
D--16------------------------
A----------------------------
E----------------------------

http://youtu.be/sXPkmIwwobA?t=55s

This is the actual part. It is simply a matter of trying to get my speed down or is there a better way of attacking the fingering? Basically I start with my ring finger on the the D string, then lower it to depress the G. Middle to finger B, index for e my pinky to do the 19 on e. I don't know if I should try and form the shape prior to executing the sweep or not. Right now I try to finger it as I go to keep distortion from ruining the scale. Is there something else at work where perhaps the distortion is killed prior to this sweep? I know almost nothing about equipment so I don't know if he kicks a pedal to make this easier.

Yes, just form those first 4 notes prior and play it sorta like a chord but mute everything immediately after. That's the way I've always played it and I'm pretty sure Hammett plays it that way.

Using the ring finger for both the D and G strings will slow you down and make you sound sloppy. That's simply a F# minor chord. Ring on the D-string, pinky on the G-string, middle on the B-string and pointer on the E-string. You have plenty of time to move your pinky to up to that high B. This way all your fingers are already set for the sweep. Just peel each one off as your pick hand sweeps over each string.
