I wish there were a decent Android guitar app. Apparently one company has come out with a device that fixes the Android latency issue, but I can't find anything about what devices work with it. iPads are just too damn expensive.

I asked this back on FoH a good while ago about a good amp and electric guitar for something reasonably priced and folks here told me a PRS or Schecter....is that still true? Which model of those guitars? Also, I am living in a condo where I can't be too loud so that would factor into the equation.

MIM strat or, if you can snipe one, MIJ strats are usually only $100 - $200 more, are on par with American quality and are only going to be missing a few of the really high end extras that you're not really going to need to be handing to a beginner anyways. You'll also get a slow burn appreciation out of it so when/if she wants to upgrade you'll be able to either sell this for more than you paid towards the new guitar or stick it in its case and sell it for double your money when she heads off to college.
I'm getting closer to the block letter 5150 you guys keep telling me to get. I picked up a H&K Tubemeister 18 head. Thing is amazing. Has the best lead channel I've heard on anything ever, and the clean channel is good if not great.
