I run a humidifier now, and I don't think it's fret sprout. I think it's just a little bit lower-end guitar that they cut some corners on, and in this case they left the fret ends a little long.

I thought about taking the guitar back over it, but I like the guitar otherwise (nice sounding pickups, plays nice otherwise) and I already am probably on some sort of shit list at Guitar Center.

I think even the Guitar Center near me has a picture of you up that says do not accept any more returns from this man

Does your GC have an in house tech? They'll probably have him clean it up for free. A pic would help.

(Unless you just don't like the guitar, in which case fuck 'em, take it back.)

I don't know how to get a picture of what I'm talking about. I don't think it's the fret ends coming out from the sides of the fretboard, so much as it is that the shoulders (is that the right word?) of the frets are too square and a bit ragged.

Like in this picture, I think it's area 1 (and maybe 2) that are the problem, more than 3.

Ragged like they have burrs or something? You could probably file that but I think with just breaking in the guitar over the course of a year it will minimize. Are you still playing brand new guitars and returning them?

No, it's like they're more squared off than frets usually are, at the "shoulder". So I can feel them more when I'm moving up and down the neck.

Ah. Yeah that sounds like it's just shitty fretwork. A tech can dress them, and it shouldn't cost much.

Howdy, folks.

I have an issue. I do a lot of live sound in a sanctuary. They recently added a magnetic loop for hearing aids. Since then, my bass and electric guitar whistle, and create feedback. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening? Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I"m not sure if a noise gate would even do anything about that. It might be causing problems right at the speaker level. It's worth a try though.

Noise gates don't do it. And the problem is actually the guitar - as soon as you turn up the high ends on the instruments, the whistling starts.

I think I'm just screwed.

It is in a church, and the problems don't really get out of hand until all the wireless mics get active.

Thanks for the link. I'll pursue it there.

Not related to guitar shit, but there's been some discussion about Ian Thornley and Big Wreck in this thread. I finally got the first Big Wreck album. The solo in Overemphasizing makes me hard. Good stuff. Thanks for the suggestion, RR.

does anyone have experience with cocktail drum kits? I need a small kit for the corner of my studio for secondary drum tracks and filler and was thinking about picking one up and sticking a normalish sized snare and tom on it. Also, what would be a good set of all around mics for drums, amps and acoustic recording? I have a 58 and a semi decent condenser but am wanting to upgrade past the 2 channel usb input into a small board. Any additional advice on a good small board (16 channel?) would be awesome as well. I just started checking stuff out but you tone guys are probably a lot better resource than anything else I could possibly find.

Played my bass the other day for the first time in almost 18 months. Feels good.

This is, kind of, the first track that I'm working on for my album where I'm not attached to anyone else's project. It needs some work but I finally got a decent recording of it. First time run through with all strings and about the tenth on the drum but it's the first time that I've ever played one. I like the vibe and how the beat will end up sounding when it's always on time. Rip it apart guys please, I definitely need the input.https://soundcloud.com/heriotze/lost-at-the-sea

Edit:
there will be lyrics also, this is just a first stab at the instruments (tenth stab at the floor tom)

The slide guitar in the first song is sick. Very Josh Homme-like.

You gotta add percussion to these tracks.
