I really dig this show so far. I missed ep2, due to football messing up my DVR recording, but I've enjoyed all the others. It's not the funniest comedy show of all time, but it has some funny moments and is just a more light hearted version of star trek overall... which I'm totally fine with.

I really like this show. It's basically Star Trek with some levity.

Much better than all the clips I can watch of STD.

It's not perfect but it's a decent start.

Oh, forgot to mention - the one thing that I was most worried about was slapstick running the plot. I hate hate hate shows where it's all retard ex machina and I was worried it was going to be all shit like clumsy guy trips onto the right button, overly emotional lady's crying is at the right audible frequency to cause pain in super alien soldier, etc.

This is all competent characters with generally likeable personalities in crazy situations, sometimes they get lucky but it's not stupid about how it presents dilemmas.

Did Star Trek actually go full retard on the paid shit? Guess I will delete that first ep from my dvr.

They're still overselling some jokes, like in the elevator instead of just letting it be awkward they had to talk about it. And still some clunky jokes. But oddly enough the more serious stuff and sci fi aspects have been consistently solid and overall enjoying this a lot. My SigO hasn't seen much Star Trek or Trek style sci fi (more so movies like The Martian and we watched Falling Skies). She absolutely loves the show. So I think this will have a broader audience than typical Trek fans waiting for this style of sci fi.

To me the 4th episode was perfect Trek, if a bit simple in execution. Interesting exploratory adventure, some danger and action but not overwhelming and it doesn't control the plot, a bit of lip service towards philosophy and the human condition, etc.

Episode three was fucking amazing. It was everything I could ask for from a Star Trek episode. Episode 4 was literally The Village mixed with Wall-E, but certainly continues in a direction I'd hope for from this genre. Unlike the fucking shit show diarrhea that is the current Star Trek.

Yes three was good as well, especially the fact that they lost. It shows they're willing to have a world that tolerates the fact that "good doesn't always triumph".

That was one criticism I had about TNG, they always seemed to "justify" the twist morally or through plot devices rather than admit there's a lot of grey and despite how eloquent Picard is sometimes random people wouldn't give a shit.

Really liking it. I enjoyed DS9 and watched some TNG, but was never a star trek fan in particular.
This show so far is very enjoyable. Humor is a bit hit or Miss, but the story is fine and people act reasonable. I watched STD yesterday and it was boring in comparison to this. And insultingly stupid at times.

The black helmsman's celebrating his kill was hilarious. Especially the whispered, "boom," at the end.

Star Trek was too vanilla about that stuff. I feel like this is more true to what would happen with real people in space.

Why is this show so good? Wtf

Honestly, probably because there's been such a drought with good space-opera Sci-Fi for so long. But it's definitely proving to be my favorite new show this year thusfar by a pretty wide margin.

Heck, even some of the cost-saving choices like they're taking versus ST: Discovery make it more approachable and "comfortable" to me. The design has a 90's/early 2000's vibe like Babylon 5, ST: TNG and DS9 which I all loved. But Discovery, while I can say the aesthetics are amazing (besides the odd mutation to Klingons) it doesn't look like a Star Trek show or even movie, it's jumped the shark too much from what I feel is Star Trek aesthetically to feel instantly comfortable with it unlike The Orville.

It gives me a Firefly / Galaxy Quest vibe, mixed with what I loved about Trek, so here's hoping for more.

I find I am looking forward more to this on Thursday than I am to football...that is a sign of winning.
