Whomever went into watching this and expected anything better than a basic, typical mafia organization being written out of Hollywood in the 2020's should lower their expectations drastically.

I watched it for the character. The plot just needed to be serviceable.
Nobody thought it was going to reinvent the wheel. In fact, everyone was mocking and loving the idea of a trashy mobster shlock before it aired.

yeah in 2024/2025 i'd infinitely prefer a basic mob story with good characters than the alternative, which is 100% the same thing every time now - lesbian black or brown 90 or 250 lb lady kills misogynistic men and takes power while saving da keedz
we can go back to crazier stories once hollywood rebuilds the foundation of simple, solid storytelling but we are still years and years deep into woke DEI bullshit and its gonna take years and years to get back to basics.
i do think the success of the taylor sheridanverse has hollywood noticing no one is buying their bullshit anymore (i haven't watched any of his stuff, i just assume its less woke than Disney/Amazon shit)

Sheridan stuff is woke, its just usually down beneath really good story telling. It does come to the surface though (re: end of Yellowstone).

Watch the ending of Yellowstone. Or if you cant make it to the end, the Piper Perabo plot line. Watch Lioness. Hell or High Water is all about the rich/working class divide and how the working class is being stepped on. The gender questionable chick in Tulsa King who is the best shot of the bunch. The entirety of Wind River is the plight of native American women. It wasn't a coincidence the bad guys were all white men working for an oil company.

I have zero complaints about Sicario. Emily Blunt in Sicario is one of the best portrayals of a strong woman, imo.
I like women like that. I don't like the Hollywood mary sue version of it, which Sheridan definitely has in some of his more recent shit.
edit: he still puts out more solid stories than anybody else in the industry, so it's a minor complaint.

simple examples
Bridgerton - replacing traditional British royalty with black and brown people. Its not just simple race swapping characters where their race doesn't really matter (comedies, modern day drama, sci fi, fantasy, etc) but its more insidious rewriting of history to pretend that non white people built the foundations of modern society, and that you should be "ashamed" of being white for stealing other races history. This happens all modern TV shows from Vikings, Troy, Roman period pieces, Hamilton, on and on. Bridgerton is THE most popular show on the planet now thanks to dumb women, and its not a "BBC sucks" problem as the show was created by Netflix and the creator is a black American woman.
