apparently our schooling system purposefully delays adolescent behavior in people alot longer than was ever done in history, no wonder each generation gets worse.

Forget the dumb thing a sec. What I have noticed is lack of social skills. I mean even my kids who I FORCE to get the hell out the house because I see what him sitting on the PC does to him socially are pretty bad outside of organized activities (sports school etc). If his cousins don't come over, he won't even bother to meet the kids across the street. Same with my neighbors kids.

The kids nowadays also seem to not know they are kids. They hold themselves as equals to adults until you have to put them in their place. I have to do this time and time again with OTHER peoples children it seems.

Dumb? Nah. My son is definitely scholastically ahead of me at his age (13 y.o on honor roll). But I had tons of common sense. He lacks that. He just doesn't get it for lack of a better term.

BUT, I can say this. My son can give you the answer to lets say a math question. It will be right, but he can't give me the base knowledge of how he got to the answer. The way they are teaching children in at least math is so much different than when I was growing up that I can't even help him half the time on his homework. It seems they teach results and not the path nowadays.
My GF is a math teacher and if all her students can present her is the solution without the path, they still get an F. Must be something with your school.

As I have grown in years I have noticed the fact that younger people are in general idiots. Most are engulfed in a the world revolves around me mentality. I noticed clear improvement in people as they aged peaking around 40. Now I have noticed that there is no real improvement after 40. Instead what I see is a decline caused by older people having a rigid non flexible world view. The older they become the more certain they become in the view that there views are correct. Not in the self centered nature of youth but simply in the dogmatic clinging to ideas that may not be the best option currently.

So you are basically a idiot well into your 20s and dont peak until about 40 and then its downhill again after that.

I'm 43, earning just fine and you kids are fucking idiots.

Do people my age and older see things differently? Yes. That and we are right.

Get the fuck over it or figure shit out for yourselves. Too many 20-somethings *think* they know shit but can't actually do a damned thing. Too many 30-somethings think they can do what us 40+ers can do and yet they cannot.

I go by results. Talk all you want but until you can do shit and still I won't care. Don't give me the "repressed" crap either... if you really knew better then you'd be kicking our asses. Youth favors whores and coders and honestly, there's little difference there anyhow. But when I need something done, I'll take experience over enthusiasm anytime.

Not sure if you're serious, given the nature of the post before yours, but... that's odd. Most of the 40+-somethings I work with couldn't think their way out of a paper bag, open at both ends, without a how-to document geared towards the level of comprehension of a 5-year-old. You must be a very special individual, or I must be surrounded by exceptionally dim-witted older people.

How did you think of yourself before you hit 40, anyway? You were one of those "I can do everything you can do" 30-somethings, right?

We are moving from an established society and learning - the Imperial system - to emergent, self-organized societies. Its still 100+ years away, and not a single one of us would function that well in emergent groups since they are much more hive-mind than any of us would be able to tolerate.

The downside is that I'm not really sure we in the West will run the future, we have become perhaps too... lazy and conservative.

The only thing I have noticed about the family structure compared to how it was when I was growing up, is how many kids I have seen outright belittle thier mothers. I can think of two friends who have kids in a relationship where the children cuss and pretty much take advantage of thier mothers. They listen to thier father, but refuse and throw fits at thier mothers. When I was growing up, I would have been beaten if I had told my mother to Fuck Off.

There seems to be less respect for the other person in this day. I honestly believe that both the TV and the computer have something to do with that. With only the TV and 3-4 channels to watch it really was not as bad. Now though, there are hundreds of channels with a system that records whatever you missed so you can view those shows later. Add the computer with Facebook and its sense of artificial friendships with improper controls, and children can grow up completely isolated and thus lack any true social skills. This then leads me to wonder whether it is intelligence that is decreasing or the lack of socialization skills that mimics this effect.

Primarily the fact that you can't hit your kids anymore without getting sued by some pussy.

I am several years short of 35. I think my generation of peers are self-entitled, extremely ignorant, and prone to avoid personal social interaction if a digital device is remotely available.

I have met some of the best of my generation and look forward to what they'll accomplish in their lives, but I weep for the US as a whole due to the massive overpopulation of oxygen thieves in my generation alone. There are more than a few dregs in the generations fore or aft of mine, but being raised in mine has given me quite the disdain for it.

With the shift away from production to service, be very afraid of who is "defending" your shores and "saving" your lives.
For some reason your post reminded me of this. Fucking kids these days, right?

Almost everyone is a moron and almost everyone has always been a moron and even for the people that aren't morons they are still capable of and do moronic things.

I remember reading a study that showed that while the typical memory of people has been decreasing by a significant amount in recent centuries, the part of their memory that tells you how to remember where to find information has significantly increased. So we are actually getting worse at remembering facts, but at the same time, our race is actually evolving to an extent to adapt to technology. We're not getting dumber, necessarily, we're just going in the direction evolution takes us. If there's some catastrophe that sends us back to the stone age, yeah we're gonna have some trouble, but sans that, we are becoming smarter in the areas where it's important to be smarter, namely in technology. If our IQ's are getting smaller, I would say it's not so much proof we're getting dumber so much as it's proof that the knowledge that lends itself to IQ tests is largely irrelevant to evolutionary success in modern society.
