I haven't watched these recent RLM vids - the Picard ones - as I was holding out to watch the series without getting spoilered. Plus I'd like to see the show and then be able to watch the RLM vids, having seen what they're talking about.
But I'm getting the impression that the Picard series is bad. Is the series that bad, I should not bother watching and just enjoy the RLM vids?

i havent seen the picard show, just the RLM reviews because comedy. the focus from Mike and Rich is that Picard is a complete raping of all previous Star Trek canon. so basically its Mike being bummed out about how nothing is the way it used to be and Rich, who agrees with him has accepted this and is trying to ease Mike through it.

If you enjoyed the JJ Abrams Star Trek more than you did the OS/TNG, then Picard is up your alley.
If you miss the days of exploration, political intrigue, and new aliens/problems/etc, Picard is 100% a miss. It is a jumbled mess that cannot decide if it is in the OS/TNG timeline or the JJ timeline, just like STD.

Even as social commentary it seems muddled. They could fall back on that as an artistic justification if the theme and commentary were coherent.
It's not a show. It's a collection of scenes and surface level nostalgia.
I really don't try to hate things just to hate them and i'm not nerdraged about it. But they're not even trying to make star trek. It's very, very shallow. Star trek could be, and usually was, cheesy as fuck. It didn't go into great depth with the problems it presented, but those problems were analagous to real problems and they were considered. They did about as well as you can do for a 30 to 60 minute show. And the great episodes that we do remember they went fairly deep for the format.
But it's not like Star Trek has been good for 20 years... so i'm kinda not surprised and sorta don't care.

It's not bad it's awful, Stewart looks like he's 200 years old, the Federation is dumb, writing is obscene, holds all the TV tropes / clichés (yes, even the "characters do stupid things to make the plot go forward" trope) and if as a Star Trek fan you still feel entitled to watch Picard, just know that during the pilot they replaced Picard with a stuntman to take a stair down and even the stuntman's stair acting was bad.

Yeah, so based on what you guys had said, I gave up on the idea that I'd get around to watching Picard and that I could like or enjoy it. So I've been watching the RLM reviews.
It looks terrible, such a shame to see the good history that Star Trek had built up over decades, being ruined again and agian by modern hacks with no understanding of what made the series(s) so great back in the day.

to be fair, go look at the picard thread and judge how others on the board view it. i never watched TNG, i was always a TOS guy, my dad loved TNG, but it wasnt for me. i liked the TNG movies somewhat, they were action packed and had some interesting twists, i am told that movie Picard is completely different than TV show Picard. the RLM guys are judging this show based on the canon from the TNG TV show and not the TNG movies which i dont think they like that much. what i got from those reviews are that this TV show is based off of the movie style Picard. so basically if you liked the TNG movies, you may enjoy this tv show.

i watched it when it first came on. maybe an episode. i didnt even like their faggoty uniforms. i noped out soon after. nah, its always gonna be James Tiberius Kirk and thats it.

Movie style Picard is garbage and I don't know why anyone would try to draw material from that shit. They definitely don't like movie Picard and the point is that movie Picard is shit. The TNG movies were trash action films(minus Insurrection, which was just bland).
