Going to have to defend Sean here. If you go strictly by ratings and reviews the Panasonic plasmas are some of the best TVs you can buy for the money. Sucks that you had bad experiences, but that's definitely the exception and not the rule. To be honest, 3 bad in 4 years is almost lottery winning luck, no matter what the brand. There is no brand that I'd consider "decent quality" that has that frequency of failure. You just had horrible luck, and it could have happened with any brand. There are many of us on this board alone that have had nothing but positive experiences with Panasonic plasmas.

Also, while you might be able to buy a 60" plasma without 3D if you try, most of them do actually have it whether you want it or not. Particularly if you decide you want a specific brand, like the Panasonic plasmas. Sometimes the 3D ones are the newer technology as well, so you either buy last year's tech with no 3D or today's with. And typically for not much difference in price. So why not? Eventually 3D will die like we all hope, but the tech will pretty much be standard in TVs for years to come.
See's someone say they had a bad personal experience with a brand of television. Responds telling them they just had a bad personal experience with a brand of television.

You'll love the TV Sean. I have the 55" version, and it is awesome. Consider doing the 100 hour burn-in before actually using it, because I would imagine you'll be playing a ton of games on it and UIs and HUDs and the like played for a long time after you first buy it can definitely affect the brightness of the various pixels.
Yeah, I'm going to run D-nice's slides before I play any games on it. I'll probably watch some of my shows interspersed here and there though. It'd be a very painful 100 hours otherwise.

Nice TV Sean. If my basement was dark enough I would be going with plasma
From what I've read light's only an issue with super-bright rooms now (for the higher end Panasonics with the light filters anyways). This is my setup and where'll be putting the TV:http://imgur.com/a/uHYaB

That cubby where my current TV is is 59 inches wide and the TV measures at 55 inches wide, so it'll fit right in there.

Going to replace the stand with this after the first of the month:http://www.walmart.com/ip/Altra-Glas.../21015289?_mm=

Then why did you even post your personal experience if you realized it probably had no basis in reality? Your post was the equivalent of one that started with, "No offense but..." and then proceeded to offend someone. I guess I should have just posted "I love my Panasonic" and left it at that?

My personal experience doesn't exist? That's how reviews are created last time I checked, by experiences with products. I've had back luck with them, that's all there is to it so I wont get another one. Read back on this thread and the car thread, plenty of posts just like that exist for the reason of just sharing experiences with said product. You're just made me laugh because you read my post and then just reported what I said in a different way. I got a chuckle out of it, don't get all butt hurt there wasn't any malice intended.

I live in Florida. No basements for our swampy-ass ground.

By sharpener I assume you mean a honing steel. You should buy a nice one regardless, but Shun's have actual free sharpening for life. Just ship them to Shun and they'll sharpen them and send them back.
They come back just as sharp as they are brand new too. I have never used anything as sharp as a Shun fresh from sharpening. I actually samurai chopped a copy of the Economist magazine in half once and it sliced all the way through it, no tearing. Probably not a recommended use for a nice kitchen knife but it's very impressive.

Also agreed on Shun being awesome and the best knife I've ever used. One thing I love about them (apart from being sharp as hell as Brutul mentioned above) is they are a good heavy knife but not so heavy as to hinder your movements with it. They never become cumbersome and your hand never gets tired from using them for extended periods of time.
