Its not difficult to find a reputable distributor of cuban cigars if you look for it. In my neck of the woods I use the pacific cigar company (The hobby company started by Sir David Tang). Provenance of all product is verified and distributed exclusively through Switzerland. I think Macanudo is the best that D.R. has to offer, but if its too mild and you are looking for something akin to Arturo fuente, then perhaps something like Bolivar would be better. The Robusto is a nice, spicy, fast smoke.
I don't remember asking for advice. I've got approximately 3,500 cigars in 2 cabinet humidors and an office table humidor. I think I'll be OK.

To each their own, but I don't "get" cigars(and I've smoked pretty much everything you can smoke - and some stuff you probably shouldn't). They stink something horrible. Though, when I was a regular cigarette smoker, I was never very into it, either. I quit 14 years ago without any trouble. Cigar smokers, what are the main things you get pleasure from in smoking cigars?

Yeah, I have smoked a few cigars and it always seemed like a bizarre activity to me. The stink is pretty unbelievable. I wish pipe smoking was cool because those things smell great.

Cigar smells very wildly. Sometimes gf compliments and sometimes it's repulsive. Its a simple and affordable pleasure if you enjoy it and it's probably about like booze... some people like xx some people find it repulsive.

I was genuinely asking, what is the pleasure part? What doyouenjoy about it? With booze, regardless of how it smells or tastes, there's the benefit of getting a buzz. I'm just trying to understand the benefit of the cigar.

gents, why are you still smoking that crap? arturo fuente is horrible, even for dominican cigars. At least smoke something like macanudo if you arent smoking cuban. But is there really any reason (price withstanding) not to be smoking cuban cigars now?
Cubans are good, but not worth it. The issue with Cuban Cigars is they are much like European beer, they use the same (great) recipe but never try to deviate and create something new. Other cigar companies that basically fled Cuba are creating original blends and new blends constantly. Most of the old legendary Cuban rollers, creators, blenders, and families are also no longer in Cuba. Cubans today are basically made by the leftovers that didn't flee the country. The only reason people smoke Cubans or will get then is for nostalgia. Sorry to say, they are not the "best of the best" anymore and nowhere close (very few exceptions).

Macanudos are mediocre. Fuentes are a very consistent and have some great blends. Downside is, they aren't adventurous enough to create new blends.

Cigars give a great buzz and nicotine high. They also can give great flavor if you smoke them correctly (retrohale). Most people just puff on them and then blow the smoke out which is not the correct way to get the flavor. I swoosh the smoke around my mouth almost like I would with mouthwash and then retrohale some out the nose (since taste has a lot to do with using your nose). One of the biggest mistakes also is people downing their cigar down fast. Basically making the tobacco burn too hot causing a sour taste.

I'm not a cigar smoker at all (basically have just had a handful while in Iraq) and I thought that was the only reason people smoked cigars; for the buzz. I'm not sure what Soygen has been doing with his cigars, but this was never a big mystery to me.

Does the buzz keep working if you smoke them regularly? When I experimented with dipping in high school I got a big buzz the first few times but after a couple weeks it went away.

I get a nicotine buzz/high nearly everytime and I've been smoking cigars daily for years.

cigars give a good buzz, and many people who smoke them find they like the taste. I find the high quality cigars can also enhance a dining experience. eating a good steak with wine, then have a cigar after can be awesome.

thanks for the suggestion, Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story, great first cigar in probably 5-10 years. my old box (standard 20-25 size) was completely dry and all the cigars in it are probably toast. got the box almost ready again to hold cigars.

any tips for my old cigars? are they salvageable? the box has been dry for probably 10 years.

I like the taste which is why I prefer a certain flavor of cigar, the spicier the better which is why I like Don Pepin cigars. Not the fanciest but they have a spicy taste I like.

I keep a lot of cigars so I can rest or age them (rest is <2 years, age is >2 years) and I give out LOTS of boxes of cigars to clients, friends etc...as gifts).

I have heard you can re humidify them in a humidor. I wouldn't mix them with your good cigars as they'll suck moisture of them too. I'm not sure 10 years is salvagable however. If you can it will take lots of time.

Yes but you'll notice the more variety you smoke some cigars have a higher nicotine content or whatever. A strong falvored cigar may or may not have a bigger kick.

If you're knew you can temper it a little if you drink something sweet while smoking I have heard, no experience with it.
