I figure for $100 if your kid says "Hey I may want to play the violin" this would be a better starting point than dropping $1500 on something they may play for a few weeks then abandon ship
Not true. I'm a violinist. $100 VSO (violin shaped objects) are frustrating to a beginner because no matter how hard they try, they will always sound like shit. They squawk and buzz because the truth is just having a bridge fitted to a real violin costs more than your paying for that whole thing so you know that very important task wasn't done.

Rent a good $1000 violin from a music store or violin shop. Many will apply that rent towards a purchase.

I sort of bricked my current (old as fuck need a new one anyways) router last night trying to install dd-wrt on it. What made you go with this router over like the Netgear Nighthawk? The latter seems a tad higher reviewed.
I was happy with the service my old Asus router gave me, so I decided to go with another one. It's been great so far. If it does end up giving me trouble, the Nighthawk will be next in line.

Asus routers are great,(I currently have the Asus RT-N66U) I'll probably never buy another brand. I've owned Netgear, Dlink, and Linksys routers in the past, and none were ever as consistently dependable as the Asus that I have now. The Asus has never choked on any of the ridiculous amount of traffic that I regularly throw at it. I can have torrents downloading at 200 mbps, while browsing the web on my PC while my wife and kid are both online on their tablets and everything runs perfectlty smooth. The Asus handles it all great. Stuff like that would bog down my older routers and cause me to have to reset them fairly often. I've owned my Asus router for almost 3 years now and I don't think I've ever reset it other than to upgrade the firmware.

Can't recommend ASUS enough

Don't leave us wanting, what are the deets?
The deets are quite boring. My AC was 15 years old and shit wasn't blowing cold. Instead of trying to CPR it back to life for another few months with old R-22 freon, I had a new unit put in. I'm going to be selling in the next 12 months, so a new unit was a good idea anyway.

I decided to buy the same router. Very easy to set up and update and all that. Lets see if it can handle my multiple HD wifi streams better than my old shit one.

Don't forget...

Prime Day
Bought another Fire TV stick for the main TV (which has a PS3 hooked up but the wife can't be bothered to L2PS3.) for ?24 instead of ?39. Thought about going with the Fire TV (box) instead at ?65 (from ?99) but meh. I don't play games, the WiFi is right behind the wall, good enough for now.

The best part about the FireTV stick over PS3 is the FireTV stick doesn't update it's fucking OS every three days

I had the same issue with an older OCZ SSD I had years ago. It then died completely. I got an email with a fix from their customer service, but never attempted it, as it had already been replaced by that point. Did not leave me with a good feeling for their products.

Bought this. Smoked ribs. Ate ribs. Grilled steak. Ate steak. Roasted chicken. Ate chicken.

All fucking delicious. Best thing I've bought in years.

Edit: Apparently there's a grill thread!

Thx for the CR link..

I have a couple OCZ 120G SSD drives I bought when SSD was more than 3 bucks a gig. They were a bitch to get recognized by my MB...had to update the firmware etc.

Was wondering if these have any issues like the OCZ's did.
oh fuck no, gone are the horrible days of being an OCZ vertex owner (i have 2 vertex30g) of randomly fucked up firmwares, but this was when OCZ and Intel were the only players in the game.

crucial, samsung, kingston all have set and forget, don't even have to fuck w/ firmware SSDs now.
