The best part about the FireTV stick over PS3 is the FireTV stick doesn't update it's fucking OS every three days
Oh so much this. Used to have a 384kbit/s line for a few months until I made the jump to LTE, if the PS3 had updates using the Amazon instant video app was unpossible. Updates took too damn long, well let's do something else tonight.

Kingston has had some bad press on their SSDs, not sure if they improved it. I know Samsung had some bad firmware issues as well.

170cc 2 stroke engine for my R/C planes. Comes in sometimes late next week.

I think the Roku 3 is the best overall streamer, but for the sticks, the Fire TV is the best. It has a faster processor and more ram than the Roku stick. The Roku stick is sluggish as hell.

I'm pretty clueless, but isn't that like a fucking moped engine? Do you do the bigass 1/4 scale airplanes? That always looks like an awesome hobby that I would be terrified to partake in for fear of destroying something that cool/expensive. Especially if you are really gungho about it.

Only on the ssdNOW line. They were using whatever combination of NAND and controllers they had in the warehouse to put them together, as long as they met the basic specs, which meant incredibly inconsistent. Literally a grab bag. The HyperX line has always been fine. In fact, they've turned out to be some of the best value you can get, they got very cheap way before any of the other good Sandforce SSDs got cheap, and their durability has turned out to be better than nearly anything.

I know Samsung had some bad firmware issues as well.
The 840 EVOs had a serious wear leveling issue that has persisted over multiple attempts to patch it. All the rest are fine.

It's going on a 42% aerobatic plane. Jets are another ball game entirely. They require a special waiver from the AMA (academy of model aeronautics) to fly. You don't need to be a member of AMA but they provide the insurance and it can add up fast if you crash a tubine into someone or start a fire. So you have to prove you can fly it with someone else who already has a waiver for X number of flights etc..

It's going on a Carden Extra. I'm having it built by a professional builder. It's 124" winspan. The DA -170 will swing a 32" carbon fiber prop with a 10" pitch at around 6,000 rpm.

Really looking forward to flying again now that I'm where there's a big community of flyers. My trailer I haul the planes around is coming via family next week.

Not me. I fly precision aerobatics, not 3d. It's basically scale aerobatics of what full size pilots fly in competition. 3d is where you see them hover veritcally inches off the ground. I can do it but it's not realistic to me.

I had a roommate while I was in the military that built model planes. None of his were anywhere near that size. He always had a shitload of balsa and shit all over the damn place was kind of obnoxious really. The planes were badass when they were done though.

Yeah that's about what I was thinking, those huge RC planes are awesome.

Europe has the lock down on "huge" RC planes. Again the AMA you are limited to 55 lbs. without a sepcial waiver. In the UK the sky is the limit and you often see 70% planes at some of their big gatherings. 4 engine turbines in a scale airliner etc...

I try to make it to the Joe Nall even in SC every year. 1000 pilots, acres and acres of planes. A lake for float planes, and a runway large enough they bring in full scale airplanes for aerobatic performances each day of the week long event.

I'd be afraid to fly one of those without some serious liability insurance policy. If the thing crashes into a person or someone's house I'm assuming it wouldn't be pretty. I didn't realize RC planes have gotten so huge.. And I thought I was a badass as a kid building those balsa wood rockets with solid fuel engines..

AMA membership provides $1 million insurance per flyer and a LOT more for flying at an AMA affiliated club/field which get their own insurance.

Those are awesome but I would also be terrified to fly them.

Bigger planes fly better/easier than smaller ones. The saying is larger planes fly, smaller planes flit. They don't get buffeted by wind as much and are easier to see and don't "flit" around and not as touchy.

Larger planes within eason are cheaper to fly if you fly much now since they use gas engines starting at around 30-50cc in size (about a 78" windspan) while smaller planes fly on nitro powered (methanol with between 10%-30% nitro) and nitromethane prices have gone thru the roof. I used to pay $8/gallon and it would last a while on a 78" wingspan plane. Now it's like $30/gallon. Where you can fly a large plane on a gallon of gas all weekend. The intial cost is higher but if you fly much it saves money in the long run.

Since we had all the discussion about the food processor, one thing I do need is a stand mixer. We have pretty limited counter and cabinet space, so a full size one would be cumbersome. And we don't bake near enough to justify paying $300 for a super nice one. Anyone use one they'd recommend for smaller cake and baking projects?
woot has the 5qts for 230 today, pretty sure it'll be 5bucks shipping, like all woot, sent pm

We had a kid at college that used to fly homemade drones (small ones) before that stuff really took off. He was video recording and lost contact with the drone, it flew straight down into the ground from however high up it was and he showed us the video. It landed like 1 foot from some dude just walking on the sidewalk, could've been killed. No thanks to any of that for me.

None of the "drone" flyers are covered by insurance unless it's on their property and their homeowners covers it. The AMA insurance requires you to fly at an AMA sanctioned field (or your own property, which is where I fly 75% of the time) and part of the restriction is no beyond visual range flying or automated flying. You must remain in control of the aircraft at all times and be in visual contact with it. Another bonus of the AMA is they have the ear of congress on the multitude of shit after 9/11 which pales in comparison to the drone stuff now.
