I'm happy to drop it. My issue isn't even with the show. It's with being accused of complaining, criticizing, bitching etc. when all I said was that a one handed guy bending the antenna and/or hotwiring a car that fast was funny. Haha. Hilarious. And it is, tell me it aint!

Some people are just too itchy to jump down someone's throat, so they see what isn't there.

P.S. As it happens, Iamfamiliar with the various ways to hotwire a vehicle...

I don't jump down throats often, usually only 2 times a week. 3 if she will let me.
Yes I am having a bad day and it sure seemed you was calling Cybsled an idiot without saying he was a idiot for something that was entirely possible. A good 2 handed thief can hotwire a car like that once inside in under 10 seconds and I would assume Meryle's character has done it numerous times before so it would be trivial. Of all the things to call someone out on with this shitty written show, that is the one thing that was possible.

In other news watching season 1 tonight on AMC, I forgot how good the first season was , it actually had writers.

I'm rarely that subtle. If I had wanted to call him an idiot, I would have. He tried to argue using a fact that had no bearing on what we were discussing, I simply pointed that out.

Hardly anything is trivial when you have only 1 hand, try it sometime. In any case, I didn't say it was impossible, (but it's highly fucking unlikely) I said it was funny. I've repeated that like three times now. I hope it's enough.

Anyways, the main problem people have with the show isn't that it's so horrible, it's just that it has such awesome potential and we wish that it would live up to it. The highest compliment this show usually gets here is "this episode sucked less than usual". It's sad, but true. If they ever manage to turn it around, I'll be the first to rave about it. But, until then, I can and will point out the funny and the stupid.

Having just rewatched this episode - ready for my take.

I think alot of you calling this a FILLER episode have no idea what that term even means.

Nikki and Paulo looking for diamonds that have nothing to do with anything, then dying is a filler episode.

A Main Character being encouraged to change, and finally making a good decision and dying is NOT a filler episode.

Now should this transition have happened over a longer arc so it wasnt so rushed? Yes.

But Merle's ultimate Redemption and death, Rick weighing his choices and deciding that its not his place to lead as a dictator and being the person they are fighting, and the romance couple getting engaged is not filler at all. In fact this was probably the first episode in weeks (Months) that was moving all stories forward.

I can see where some people would think the timing was off, but I think this was a great episode.

Seriously, Michonne's talk with Merle in the car, about how he never killed until the Governor and how the Governor turned him into such a monster was great.

"I cant go back". He wasnt talking about the prison. He has become a horrible person and filled witht Guilt. Daryl wants his brother back, but that man is gone. But the good that was left freed Michonne and tried to kill to govenor.

Govenor biting off fingers was fucking nuts.

For some reason merle's last moments were just boring. Something about the scene from when he rolled in with his oldsmobile and played the pied piper until when he gets shot just seemed weird. Like it was all rushed so we could fit in more minutes of characters looking at each other.

I don't really care if it shows him touching the green wire to the red wire wheneveryoneknows you need to touch the red wire to the blue wire to hotwire a car. I try not to nitpick tiny things like that since I have a treasure trove of logical fallacies I can choose from each and every episode.

-edit-

I thought the 1 episode "he's a good guy now, guys!!" transformation of Merle was horribly gay

Agreed. When Michoone told him "No one will mourn you...not even your brother." You could feel at that point something changed. I liked the episode a lot.

I mean sure it was still filled with a bunch of tiny things you could not pick but on the whole it was a good episode and we finally started to see a lot of things progress.

But then it was the episode before the last of the season...with almost no progression before this they didn't have much of a choice.

Except he's not a good guy. He's a monster who can't survive in his environment and the only thing he can do to stand who he is is to suicide in a way that helps the only person he cares about.

I agree. If they would of showed Merle fighting alongside his brother and the rest of the prison crew against Woodbury it would be contrived and fake. This is really the only way he could of gone out. They added the zombie part in the end because that makes it more powerful from Darryl's point of view.

There are a lot of things to bitch about in this episode but I don't think the last 10 minutes are one of them.

Plus now we get to see Darryl go beast mode in the final fight. I wonder if he gets the killing blow on the gov?

agreed on it not all being filler. but even 75% filler is way too much. he could have had his speech in the prison and died in this "war" thats going to take place. instead they pussyfooted around for 40 minutes and then reset the whole thing by letting michonne go back. so yeah that 25% was cool. but lets not forget we had to slog through 3 quarters of trash to get to it. thats not a good ratio IMO

Jfc, I guess "talking" is considered filler now by people.

Filler is a term applied to something that adds no real value to a character or the story.

all the development happened in the last quarter, before that all we got was rick being a whiny little pussy, merle being merle and his spur of the moment without thinking idea of bringing michonne to Gov himself. its why rick didnt ask merle if he though the gov would honor their deal and totally not doublecross him. if he had asked that merle would have told him sure he is going to doublecross you. by him not asking merle that question it sent the merle into this tangent which had no payoff. all it did was have him suicide himself by killing some redshirts. im sorry, man but did you miss random_woodbury_citizen_03 when he killed him? did it affect the plot in any way? did merle's death have any affect on the storyline? yeah i liked merle , but after he left woodbury, his character was pretty much finished and he was just hanging around.

I think what he's getting at is this episode was kind of a closed loop. I don't know if I'd say "filler" is the appropriate word but Merle's character pretty much ran it's course and didn't really have a purpose anymore. In the end the only thing that really advanced this episode was Merle's advancement as a character then eventual death. Some red shirt woodbury citizens died and Ben -- who was never really introduced to the audience in the first place.

I will say with how bad the show has been after it's half-season return this is one of the highlight episodes of the latter half

if merle had explained that the michonne trade was a trap, rick would have a reason to decide against the deal. merle would have influenced his decision and his status in the group would have elevated significantly. merle would finally have served a purpose and the storyline would have advanced with him as part of it. i swear merle was only brought back for the same reason morgan was. padding out the extra episodes.
