Bill Simmons did a tweet saying HBO Signature should just be Wire and Sapranos re-runs. Can't really say I'd disagree with that, watching S3 of the Wire today just made me think what TV show even had 1 single season approaching the awesomeness that was on display, Breaking Bad last season maybe? Such a shame this didn't get the acclaim it deserved. Mouzone and Omar facing up with Stringer, dear god....

Couldn't agree more. Mouzone was stupid as shit. The entire Hamsterdam plot was almost as unbelievable/over the top and why I really don't get the praise for season 3.

Season 3 is great because of the Stringer/Avon relationship and how they come to realize one of them has to go. Hamsterdam wasn't horrible, Mouzone was so-so.

I was fine with Hamsterdam the second time watching it. It was about a commander responding to the demands of his superiors to lower their crime statistics, as if they can just stop crime from happening. Bunny went YOLO.

Just rewatching season 5 reminds me again of why it was the weakest. Every time I watch S2 I just like it more and more, its definitely becoming my favorite season.

I really wonder why so many of these actors never showed up elsewhere. The black guy from the paper is great. All the cops were great. Bodie was excellent. About the only ones to go on to great success were Omar and now to some extent Wallace.

Well Idris Elba (Stringer) and Dominic West (McNulty) are very successful but they're both British so possibly you just havent been exposed to enough British entertainment. You're right though in that for the amount of characters you don't see many of them around anymore but I think that's true for most popular tv shows.
