Does the 2 empty seats apply just horizontally or vertically as well? You just know some asshat will sit right behind you lol. That shit is annoyed by even in a pre-covid world
i can not find it, but think it falls under state/county rules.
closest Cinemark to me (2 hours away) , is selling tickets for July 3rd - Matrix 1, Jaws, Mad Max Fury Road, Back to the Future, Space Jam, Mean Girls, Blade Runner - The final Cut and some newer ones, and it will let me buy tickets behind others purchased seats. it also X's out the 2 seats to both sides of my pick.

the local new marquee, is open right now, and only has certain seats open

i just saw that AMC has changed policy after the announcement
AMC Theatres Reverses and Will Require Guests to Wear Masks Nationwide
AMC also noted that anyone who does not have a mask can purchase one at the box office for $1. But those who are unwilling to wear a mask will not be admitted or will not be allowed to stay.

=

Alamo Drafthouse issued a statement on Friday saying it would be requiring patrons to wear masks and that those without one will be given one.

Can't eat popcorn with a mask on. They better be getting a huge % of those ticket sales.

To hell with wearing a mask at the movies. I'll be sticking to drive ins and streaming at home.

These chains are nuts if they think people are going to pay to sit in their theaters with masks on. Might as well just stay closed.

This shit is the epitome of "death spiral". Hollywood releasing nothing new, theaters can't open, theaters open but have nothing to show, Nolan movie comes out but people have to wear masks to watch...repeat as necessary.

Actually, some local drive ins that had been abandoned/unused for years or in some cases decades are getting new leases on life. Kind of awesome that (for now) they'll get some use. I suspect it won't last, though, because of the main reasons drive-ins died to begin with.

I agree, BUT... Imagine a drive-in with draft beer (I know, driving, beer, etc, but ...), and like good pub food. My local Cinemark is one of those ones you eat in, and honestly their draft beer and food is as good as any chain restaurant in town. And like they could do bluetooth audio to your car stereo, or like great little things that would plug in and you'd put on your dashboard for audio (I've literally only seen Driveins in movies so I assume they have like a speaker outside that plays through your window). You could make them really awesome. Shit even privacy screens between vehicles so you could get head while watching.

I feel like half the appeal of going to a drive in is that you can bring your own six pack with you.

the pole speakers went away a few decades ago, most all is done by FM radio now. not thought of it in years, there used to be an adult drive in about 20 miles away, it had dividers on poles between the cars. been closed about 30+ years, but it still might be there.

investing in specialty food/drink is risky as they are not open that long and you can bring anything in there. when i was growing up, some of them had great hot dogs, pizza, chicken and burgers, but this was before there was a chain joint every 50 feet.

Ya, food isn't viable in terms of sustaining profit like a regular theater is. Even if they enforced it, it's far far easier to sneak food into a drive-in then a regular theater. Plus it's an investment cost and if you didn't get enough takers, it would end up being a loss.

The other reasons drive-ins died was they are very limited in terms of showtimes (night time + good weather only pretty much) and the viewing experience isn't quite the same (poorer picture quality in general, sound is limited by your car). Plus if it is hot AF, most arent going to let your car just run with the engine on the entire time, so your AC will struggle.

I've only started going to drive ins (ever) since this started and now I deeply appreciate laying under the stars (I bring lawn chairs) watching movies and munching on pizza/popcorn that is not triple priced. I go on average once a week, and they are all at least a hour away. Big bonus that the dog can come with.

How the fuck are they going to enforce you wearing a mask in a dark ass theater? You'd have to be a fucking idiot to follow that rule.

Well, if you're going to the theater with people who won't wear masks, you're an idiot to begin with lol

No.

Either way whats the point? Dont theaters make most of their profit off of concessions sales? If those would still be allowed no one would wear a mask.

Depends. If they're like me, the popcorn is gone 10 minutes into the movie lol
Shocking that a tub 'o lard wants to force people to wear masks. If I was as unhealthy as you, I'd probably shit my pants over masks also.

Lol? I buy small popcorn which is probably equivalent to a bag of microwave popcorn in volume, not the “you can wash a dog in this” tub size.

Also fuck the fake “butter” they ask if you want on it. Shit is nasty.

Yeah when asked if I want butter I ask is it real butter or just oil? 99 percent of the time yeah its just oil. No thanks. There is one theater i've ever been to that actually uses real butter.
