what? how old are you? If you are young then I would get it. Top gun has way more relevance today than days of Thunder. But for anyone over 35 these were two of the best moviesof the late 80s early 90s. days faded away over time but when I re watch it, it’s still great.

I've known all the words to Top Gun since I was 9.

Days of Thunder is not anywhere near worthy of being mentioned in the same breath. Especially as it's essentially a road based remake

And certainly nobody agrees that it's one of the best film's of that era.

The fact you think 1986s Top Gun is late 80s only further exposes your idiocy.

Are you spronk spronk in disguise?

It's a shame Tom never got to play Lestat again. He was amazing in Interview with a Vampire. I remember at the time people complaining that he was cast for the role. He proved all of them wrong. Pitt did an amazing job as Louis also.

He said he wanted to play him again and it's one of the most fun characters he's played.

He's down, but the IP was mismanaged and from what I understand is in "licensing" hell, for what will be forever. If something clears up and they present Tom with a reboot script he'll 100% do it.

But unfortunately the rights to the IP are being coddled and not in the right hands.

Eyes wide shut was his swing at being what he wasnt. Tom Cruise doesnt belong in Kubrick films. I dont blmae him for wanting to try, its an actors dream. But that movie is 1000 times better with Gary Oldman in that role.
Vanilla Sky was a good fucked up Cruiz movie.

Fucking LOVED Vanilla Sky. I've probably seen it 20 times. Great soundtrack, and I remember the first scene when he's so fucked up looking, yikes. TECH SUPPORT!!! That was the movie everyone fell in love with Penelope Cruz in!

Ouch!

Man what happened to Olga Karylonko or whatever?

She looks like a mature Russian housewife trophy now. Not as much star power.

Less athletic and sporty in appearance, has a more "settled in" look-- something that has evaded both Cruise and Pitt in their 50's thus far.

And not much leading lady effect as say Catherine Zeta Jones was at the same age. So despite the mature hotwife look, lacks the charm of a Zeta Jones.

She's still got some juice, but I think she's been firmly B listed at this point.

When I watch Days of thunder, I just can't get past the logic errors re: car racing, so much stuff in the film is just wrong. The script writers knew nothing about motor sport.

the second movie was absolute mid budget goth schlock.k

I love it as much as the first, but it is completely different, and by any objective measure a faceplant of failure.

God damn it's so retarded it's fun though. They got vampire movies right between the two of them.

So if Top Gun was a story about Maverick discovering his homosexuality, what is in store for the sequel? Gay marriage?

Fairly sure Maverick discovered his homosexuality a long time ago.

And fairly sure Scientology has trained ninjas that will kill you if you try to mess with him about it. Cruise isn't in the closet; he is in Fort Knox.

Him and Travolta. Basically joined the Church to get assassins to protect their homosexuality.

Travolta got busted several times soliciting men on cruise ships (was the staff on ship that blew the whistle). Kevin Spacey type of preying.

Jaime Fox said he saw some weird shit I think once back during the Collateral era. I forget the story though. It wasn't overtly gay or anything (otherwise Jaime wouldn't even dare mention it), but was weird and out of character for Cruise. Maybe the story will come to me later. Was something "inappropriate" but not gay.

iirc NASCAR publicly denounced the movie when it came out.
