I don't like the broken stuff and avoid it. Like Orion able to use the trees to declare war on enough people to get free upkeep for all his armies.

The game is easy enough once you get out of the early game and start steam rolling.
Playing on legendary, it didn't seem too broken in retrospect. Gave Dwarfs a spin, and you can manage to get a respectable income while only holding on to 2 or 3 provinces. Sounds inherently broken at first, but that building chain's benefits also hinge on you having a small number of settlements, so it's not like you could suddenly expand and expect to maintain that same level of benefit. They could still probably reduce the effects a bit, but either way, it's the first good example I can think of where building tall instead of wide is actually viable. I like that it's an option.

Did they adress the dumb shit with the towers when attacking cities or is it still a thing?

Last I played (~4mo ago) you can use mods to customize how or if you want towers to work. Should be able to search the workshop for mods related to towers. I think one of them caps the amount of resources you have to build them at 1, effectively disabling them.

The buildable towers are a non-issue now. Unlike the outward-facing towers in major siege battles, the buildable towers do very little damage and can be mostly ignored. Or, if you have a few flying units, you can rush them and smash them down. Once any of the buildable items are destroyed, it can no longer be rebuilt during that battle.

Thanks, after 4 years of not being on PC, this is one of the games I want to play on new rig.

Will still be from the couch though. Consolitis comfort is too adictive.

If you're talking about towers getting rebuilt after being destroyed, yes, that was fixed. The defender still earns supplies throughout the fight, so if you drag your ass on the attack, you can count on basically everything getting built at some point, but once it's destroyed, it's gone.

In the middle of a taurox very hard immortal empires campaign but might have to take a break from the big cow and try out some of the new DLC lords. I've never played Ogres so goldfag is definitely going to get got. I wonder how he will play without the ogre race pack?

I assume you'll have access to all the units, just not the lords. He'd have a pretty limited roster otherwise.

I know with wood elves I only have sisters of twilight so no confederations and I'm lacking some heroe choices. I did get access to Ariel though.

Unfortunately - and unsurprisingly, considering this is Creative Assembly - there's currently a major bug introduced in the new patch. They updated the calculations for splash attack damage, trying to make it more uniform and easily understandable as a stat.

However, they fucked up big time and managed to inadvertently nerf the hell out of a lot of units with low model counts that rely on splash damage for their combat performance - most notably monstrous infantry and monstrous cavalry. Which is to say, pretty much the entire Ogre Kingdoms roster.

It's a double shame because the actual content of the new Omens of Destruction DLC is really, really good. What little I fooled around with the Golgfag Maneater campaign last night was insanely fun from a grand strategy perspective; Golgfag's mercenary contract mechanic is very well done and captures the feeling of a world-spanning sell-sword perfectly. Really sucks to see his new, top-tier anti-infantry Maneaters unit struggle to win a 1-vs-1 against a unit of regular Empire Spearmen, though.

CA have seen the glitch and are promising a hotfix will come out early next week. There are also mods on the Steam Workshop that revert/patch the splash damage back to the values from the previous release. In the meantime, I'm going to try out the new Free-LC lord, Arbaal the Undefeated. I've heard very positive things about his campaign, and he seems to be mostly focused on mortal infantry, so the bug shouldn't impact him too much.

I finished the arbaal campaign last night. A bit of a slow start with gold and being bankrupt, but being able to instantly teleport into battle whenever you want trivializes the game after a short while. Once your initial territory is locked down with a second lord you can safely just hop around the world raking in the cash, focus on fast growth, get to tier 3 and load up on chosen and destroy everyone.

Damn, is it really that bad? I've been playing Golgfag on Legendary (max AI stat cheats) and Golgfag's Maneaters wreck all the infantry I throw them at. Also, by that logic, shouldn't single entity splash damage suck too? Stonehorns have been demolishing everything. To be fair, I never played Ogres prior to this, so didn't really have a baseline.

The annoying bug I'm seeing is that although the game says you'll get additional rewards for continuing to rack up points beyond a contract's goal, I'm not seeing any difference. Went over 200% of the contract requirement and the reward total never changed.

I was exaggerating a bit for effect - I haven't personally played much of the revamped Ogres yet to get a handle on how bad the bug is. However, here's a video with one of the more egregious examples of the splash damage bug:

I'm cool with waiting on a hotfix before starting a real Golgfag campaign - I'm having a bit too much fun with Arbaal right now anyway.

They got on that fast:
