In Tron: Legacy, Cillian Murphy had a brief part as the son of Dillinger, the villain of the original Tron.
Supposedly the original plan for Tron 3 was Murphy would realize where the Flynns went / Quorra came from and build a new portal to the grid, resulting in the Earth getting invaded; it will be interesting to see how much of Ares is still based on that storyline. (i.e. does Gillian Anderson serve the same function as instigating the invasion, only now it's Ares fighting it off, instead of Quorra?)

Flynn/Bridges is supposed to be in it. Word is this is more of a reboot than a continuation of Legacy, although I do wonder if they will reference Legacy at all (concepts or otherwise)

They did. They showed them completely resetting the entire world into nothingness. Zero logical way to have any continuation with how Legacy ended.

I really loved that 2012 or whenever it was Tron movie. Kinda bittersweet to get another one after all these years and not get more Olivia Wilde.
And they didn't delete the Tron world in the last one - he shut down the old server that was running it and downloaded the whole world in the necklace Quorra is wearing at the end. In terms of computer scifi magic the world is probably just suspended while it's not running and could be turned back on the second they load it in to a new server.

I just rewatched it myself, even beyond the necklace transfer, there's a line that the portal is beyond the badlands - only the portal and the invasion troops definitively get nuked - we don't see the city proper.
It's also not like it matters, as Bridges is the one character that shouldn't be able to come back, but he's the only one that we know is.
