Yeah, I don't get the complaints either. There were quite a few really memorable "quiet" scenes I enjoyed this episode.
Vince Vaughn's creepy monologue that you mentioned.
The conversation in the car starting with the robot dick and ending with "How compromised are you"
Velcoro almost breaking down talking to his wife about their son, breaking off in the middle of saying it was all he had.
VV and the mayor's back and forth.
I don't get the complaints about the writing at all.
Yeah, the non-bullshit explanation is that he was wearing a bulletproof vest. While bulletproof vests tend not to be bulletproof in practice, they actually do a great job at stopping shotgun blasts.i also hope they have a non bullshit explanation for farrell being alive next week. hint, rock salt/bean bag shotgun blast=bullshit
bulletproof vest is still a trope and i dont think its a very good one when a shotgun is involved.Yeah, the non-bullshit explanation is that he was wearing a bulletproof vest. While bulletproof vests tend not to be bulletproof in practice, they actually do a great job at stopping shotgun blasts.
The blood wasn't fresh; a fact made evident by its color.I wish one of you saying you don't understand the criticisms of the show would actually explain or refute those criticisms. And no, sorry, crying about people comparing it to season 1, promising it's only been [insert episode] so it has time to get better, or saying the thread sucks, isn't exactly engaging the content we're seeing in the show.
Someone, anyone, who doesn't have any issues or complaints with the writing please explain why a dirty cop sent to a house of a murder victim by the crime lord boss that has him by the nuts holsters his weapon on the first site of a puddle of fucking blood. Please, for fuck sake, if you have no complaints with the show explain to the rest of us idiots how that made any sense or was quality television?
I'm mostly just entertained. Win, win for me. If the show is great, I enjoy it. If the show is really terrible, most of us stop watching. If the show is good (which it is) but has quite a few glaring issues, people don't just say 'it's good, but has issues' but instead freak the fuck out defending the show to ridiculous extent, which is win-win for me, because the show is still good enough, and I get to have some really frank discussions with fellow lovers of the show!If anything, you sound insanely butthurt that the show isn't living up to whatever you hopes you had. Not the other way around.
The thing is, I don't think this season is amazing. The two episodes entertained me, but I've seen much better. Maybe my bar is set much lower. You should probably just stop watching if it's not up to your high standards.
Ah, so he comes across the obvious murder scene, but the blood isn't fresh. Sure, music is playing and the place is fucking creepy as hell, and now there's proof of the murder.... but not recently. So, yeah, probably best to holster your weapon, not clear the house, don't be at the ready as you're poking around. You know, just obliviously poke around jamming to the sweet tunes assuming nobody is paying attention to the scene they murdered and tortured someone, or followed you. All for the sake of what, an is-he-dead cliffhanger? Riveting stuff! The blood wasn't fresh; a fact made evident by its color.
He doesn't like the "it's only been 2 episodes" excuse. You're disqualified. All people are saying is relax its only been 2 episodes, you seem to be really into the fact that this season sucks. Like way to into it for only having 2 episodes to judge by.
I think we're officially approaching the point of having retarded True Detective Fanboys the likes of Vanguard.
Step 1: have a ton of hope and come running to some forum to have everything you believe in validated.
Step 2: tell the people who criticize the game to stop comparing it to other games, that it will stand on it's own, that there is still time for a miracle patch.
Step 3: shout down anyone bringing up any valid points and begging you to defend them coherently and objectively by calling them fucking morons and faggots in replies, nets and PMs.
Step 4: profit??? by pretending you never were one of the idiots on the bandwagon in the first place? Can't wait for season 3!!!
Have we learned nothing from Vanguard?! Sometimes where there's a lot of smoke and a throng of people seething at their mouth-vagina anytime someone says anything critical, umm, everyone on True Detective is going to be fired in a parking lot?
But hey, I hear episode 3 has the miracle patch!
Yeah, good point. Is it episode 3 when shitty, overwrought, mumbled monologues by VV start getting better? He doesn't like the "it's only been 2 episodes" excuse. You're disqualified.
Again, no evidence someone was there recently.Ah, so he comes across the obvious murder scene, but the blood isn't fresh.
Sure, why not? I don't think it's actually bad, yet. It just seems rushed and falling prey to a lot that is typical of a sophomore effort. It happens all the time with shows, movies, books, etc. You work years on a passion project, it not only gets picked up but gains traction and acclaim, then suddenly you're asked to duplicate the effort with a fraction of the turn around. In fact, I'm sure it will get better as we go as everyone involved gets their feet back under them. That doesn't mean the show is above criticism right now, and that the people bitching and whining and crying about that criticism don't prove time and again they aren't equipped with understanding the product beyond "fuck you, I like watching tv!!!"I'm sure you'll be here to tell us if and when it gets good.
