Well, dude just lost 5 million bucks and has daddy issues. Losing it could very well be in his future.

Im assuming the next episode has something good since fukunaga decided to direct it

Collin Farrell and Rachel McAdams are the only interesting characters. Should of just been the 2 of them.

I'm having serious issues getting past VV in this. Just not feeling his acting job at all but I think it's in part he's stuck in the funny guy role for me. I'm trying to be open minded but he just isn't killing the role yet.
I think the problem many have is when he talks, it just doesn't sound serious enough for what the character warrants.

He's an actor in a situation over his head, playing a character in a situation over his head. It works just fine.

vaughn doesnt come across as threatening in any sort of way, so casting him as a mob boss feels like a mistake. maybe he does lose his shit at some point, but how he got to where he was in the first place seems like a stretch. dude looks like he should be the assistant manager of a taco bell.

VV seems more like hes acting in a play rather than in a tv show. Very stiff acting with no expression.

Casting an actor who is known for a certain type of role into one that is dramatically different can, all by itself, have an impact on the viewer that no sort of writing or directing can have all by themselves. The gold standard for this coincidentally was another criminal named Frank:

Henry Fonda inOnce Upon A Time In The West. An actor well known for playing protagonists and sympathetic characters at that time. It added a certain sort of additional shock value to seeing his face attached to the acts he was performing on screen.

It still requires good acting chops to have it's full effect. VV's professional history works against him in this regard really (Psycho notwithstanding) and his abilities don't seem sufficient to overcome that.

VV has made a career out of playing the same character for 10 movies
deliveryman
internship
the watch
couples retreat
the break up
wedding crashers
dodgeball

these are his most recent movies, he plays the same dumb fuck in every movie. For 10 years he's played the too old single guy. While i think emmys and AA are stupid, he's been nominated for nothing. (maybe 1? throw him a bone).

Last season you had Woody Harrelson, his first job, play a character so dumb they gave the character the same name. And since then he's not only been nominated for over 20 awards, he's won about 10 of em.

MM is in the same boat as well, with twice the noms and wins as WH (most of them for being a bad ass in Dallas Buyers Club)

and VV is supposed to live up to this? he's out of his depth, hell he doesn't even have depth, his pool of acting is 2ft shallow, we all knew it when he was casted and so far he's living up to his shit poor performance these 2 episodes.

You know what his casting tells me? that it was originally supposed to be just Collin and Rachel, being the buddy cop and some retard exec thought "a guy and girl? not 2 guys? let's bring in another guy for cheap, so we can sorta be like last season"

He was just a bad choice of casting. They probably had a lot of good actors looking to play those roles too.

I find the acting seems forced, especially with McAdams. Her and VV seem way out of there league. I'm not giving up on watching but it's not gonna be a big deal to me if I miss an episode or two unlike the first season or game of thrones where I needed to see it the second it was available.
