Even for it being about the characters it was boring as shit. The only characters I found interesting were Collin Ferrell and Rachel McAdams for the first half of the season. The last half she just annoyed the shit outta me. Vaughn would have been more interesting if his acting was better cuz he had some great scenes.
See I thought VV acting was serviceable.

Velcoro is still a TV legend either way when the dust settles.

season 3 will be about a bunch of internet gamers who harass women online and the transexual womyn blogger-detective who visits and lectures each of them about white male privilege

the secret twist in episode 4 will be her submerged alter ego, which only comes out at night, is a fedora wearing neckbeard sailor moon cosplayer who murders black teenagers. in the finale trayvon martin and michael brown come down from heaven and hug everyone into islam

Watched the last episode finally a few days ago and was pretty let down. I felt this entire season had terrible pacing and editing and the last episode was a prime example. There was so little tension or buildup when there should have been plenty. The ambush of the Russian group was so thoroughly unexciting to me when it should have had a more dramatic payoff (also, great security setup there -- have 2-3 guys outside a cabin in the woods in the dark but keep a dozen inside). I think the plot itself could have been far more interesting if it was assembled and presented in a more compelling manner. You can say the story wasn't about the plot but the characters but in the end I was only really interested in two of the four main characters (Frank and Ray), so that's a pretty big negative for me. I didn't mind Velcoro dying as that felt inevitable and it actually happened for reasons that were somewhat compelling story wise (him getting picked up because of wanting to see his kid). However, Frank's death didn't feel as earned because I didn't give two shits about the Mexicans and it just seemed like a thrown in way to achieve his death after him getting his revenge (the actual scene wasn't too bad, though it felt like there should have been another character or two between the gambler debt guy and his woman to flesh out that progression).

I thought the beginning of the season was too slow and the end too fast. It would have been better as a four episode series or a 12 episode series with less control from Pizzolatto.

While season 2 lacked the entertainment value of the first season (spooky setting, comic relief, sexual tension), I feel this season was far more interesting. Sure, I have technical criticisms like Vaughn's mediocre performance, but all things considered, this was one of the best seasons of television I have ever seen. As a character study it is simply unparalleled.

It's really nice somebody is making television for smart people.
Television for smart people. Right. The entire season seemed to be Pizzolatto railing against E-cigs. McAdams goes from E-cigs to regular cigarettes because she was teased. Could've done that in a ten second commercial, instead of wasting everyone's time on 8 hours of shitty television with a horrible plot, bad acting, and the worst dialogue of any show ever produced by HBO.

It's obvious that HBO let Pizzolatto run wild with season 2. RUST LINES FOR YOU! RUST LINES FOR YOU! EVERYONE GETS RUST LINES!!!

Rein that shit in, Pizza boy.

*shrug* I can't wait for season 3. This show is excellent.

On the bright side, we now have a baseline for how this kind of television resonates with stupid people.

This season will hopefully humble Pizzolatto. Since he got the George Lucas treatment due tot he runaway success of season one, without taking into account the marvelous actors and likely much other input he was getting through the entire process, he was unable to replicate it.

Even with rockstar (at least Colin) actors and an awesome writing team (which I am sure he has), still need to actually listen to them. Lets see if Season 3 recreates some more magic.

This show is still better than 99% of the other shit on TV. Just need to get Pizzaboy under control...I don't care if it takes an extra 6 months...Take the time and do it right.

There should be enough criticism of this season that they reign his ass in (hopefully more than a little) and not let it be his total playground. It was still successful, still enjoyable (if you're not dumb as fuck or married to your bias against Vince Vaughn) even this season. It just clearly wasn't close to the level of S1. Maybe some of it was the story/location/everyone should have deeply profound over the top dialogue. I agree they should take the time to do a 3rd season right though.

Except that Rust lines were thought provoking and memorable. The lines from all of the actors this year were so bad they'd make Keanu Reeves and Sylvester Stallone embarrassed to say them.

You're as bad with posts as Big_Pizz is with the dialogue.

Actually, for the record, although I can't stand your incessant yappy posts, I didn't mind/liked most of the dialogue this season.

I enjoyed the season alot until but the second half. It wrapped up all questions about the case ect but all characters died with terrible closure

Paul's hatred of enjoying buttsex never explained
Ray giving up on his son even though thats the only thing he cared about in life and letting Pauls killers go was dumb.
Franks death made some sense with his I fear nothing but he even went somwhat retarded at the end

All three male leads find some reason they want to live, right after get killed from stupid shit after kicking ass

Thats the problem with shows like this, that dont achieve universal acclaim. People latch on to one extreme and simply bash people on the other end of it.

All homsar has done is defend his affinity for the show (while still leveling criticism where needed), as have others. All astro has done is shit on it instead of realizing that not everyone shares his fucked up opinion and there is a thing called middle ground.
