Actually, I do. However, any way you try and rationalize it, this season of True Detective was terrible.

Finally made myself watch the finale and it was nothing special. The only part I found interesting was the desert scene with VV. So much of the show just made no sense and was too convoluted.

Only if they take it out of Nic Pizzolatto's hands and let someone else write it. It's pretty obvious he blew his entire wad on the first season and has nothing left. If they let him do another season, he's going to go full George Lucas on this franchise.

The comments are out of hand now. Of course there will be a season 3, season 2 was disappointing but it wasnt a total fucking failure. People who absolutely hate this show and got nothing out of it are in the minority.

While season 2 lacked the entertainment value of the first season (spooky setting, comic relief, sexual tension), I feel this season was far more interesting. Sure, I have technical criticisms like Vaughn's mediocre performance, but all things considered, this was one of the best seasons of television I have ever seen. As a character study it is simply unparalleled.

It's really nice somebody is making television for smart people.

I'm not talking about the 'plot'. If you were watching True Detective for the whodunnit/caper, you were doing it wrong.

The plot/murders are vehicles for revealing character, nothing more. Pizzolatto accomplished this expertly.

Oh, it definitely had a plot, it just wasn't the 'main attraction' so to speak.

Well the character stories weren't able to carry this season alone.

I can appreciate their stories, but it didn't make for an interesting tale.

Edit: It was Pizzolatto seeing how everyone loved those deep Rust scenes and saying "IM GOING TO WRITE THAT FOR EVERY CHARACTER!"

He basically made a show with all Rust characters. You need balance, man.

Even for it being about the characters it was boring as shit. The only characters I found interesting were Collin Ferrell and Rachel McAdams for the first half of the season. The last half she just annoyed the shit outta me. Vaughn would have been more interesting if his acting was better cuz he had some great scenes.

Vaughn was fine when he wasn't talking to his wife. Ending was just lame and felt try hard. End of s1 was kinda depressing over all but it gave our main characters a feeling of hope. S1 is a classic and S2 is going to be forgotten because it's not special or interesting.

S3 going to be four cops, two mob bosses, and a a mexican juggler with a dark past.
