Now who is stretching? You take a guy who almost shit himself when he saw his daughter drawing dicks, have him find a gang bang scene and just ignore it. Not to mention, the girl playing with the the actual rape doll? Was the younger daughter, who showed no signs of being fucked up later. In your theory, did she telepathically (Because they weren't talking about it before) communicate the rape and position the doll in the ritualistic manner as her father walked in? I believe a continuity error is far more plausible than a single scene where Marty projects some imagined gang rape doll scene he hasn't witnessed yet against an entire season where everything else we witness actually happens. Excluding Rust's hallucinations, which are very surreal and easily distinguished.

Yeah, they spend an awful lot of screen time on the daughters, which up til now seems pretty pointless. All that yappin about shit being right under his nose during the interview and scene after scene of his family life that really doesn't add much to the story. I mean, you can sum up the somewhat relevant events like this: He cheats, gets ratted out, wife leaves him, then takes him back. He cheats again, wife catches him, then gets a divorce. Daughters turn out fine, as long as the one takes her meds. The end.

If the story is only about Carcosa and these murders, then sure, I guess it doesn't add much. If the story is about Marty and Rust then it is pretty pertinent. It's perspective, I guess.

they made it very clear that the daughter was fine one day then after the visit to the grandparents she started acting out. i guess it could be something separate, but the way this show went to the trouble of setting it all up im going with they are connected.

i also think we are missing some info that Rust told/showed Hart, because he put his life on hold and went full on into this case, making his ex-wife think he was telling her goodbye. the weird kiddie porn video he watched i dont think would be enough to to make Hart kidnap a county sheriff and torture info from him. there was a big revelation he got from somewhere that completely redirected his life purpose.

Considering the fact that as of yet nothing has happened as a result of any of those scenes I'd say they are about as relevant as watching Marty take his car in for an oil change. But, that's just my opinion.

Someone did mention Chekhov's Gun, which definitely applies here if something relevant to those scenes isn't revealed in the finale.

You do realize one incident in your personal life does not equate to 100% of every female ever, right? Wait, never mind...

Unfortunately, while I do not think the finale will be as satisfying as we had hoped (more straightforward etc.), it was still a damn good series and 8 episodes of Rust and Marty seem way too short. Hopefully, whoever they get for next season can turn in equally captivating performances.

God, you guys saying Marty's daughter has/will be apart of the ritual are really stretching. Could it be, at one point a cop's daughters overheard him talking about any crime scene and decided to recreate something similar with their dolls? Marty's biggest failure was as a father, as he stated. Not noticing his actions had a negative effect on one of his daughters when everything was in front of him was his detectives curse, which ultimately lead him to be alone later in life. Not that his failure was his inability to recognize his cult flowing father in law who was in one scene (plus on the phone one other time) was raping his daughter.

Marty's interview with the police is in the past now though. He can still discover new shit about his daughter. The whole "it was right under my nose" doesn't apply anymore. That was said in the past at this point.

In Astrobro's After School Special version of reality, there is a direct A->B correlation between all of these things. Girl turns into a whore, she must have been raped by cultists. Sadly lots of people do really strange shit and there is no one thing you can point to that tells you why. There are a lot of little things, like years of neglect from Marty and of course the example he set for them. Like I said, I think it is perspective. People want this to be a story about Carcosa and the evil cult and they want this to be tied to that, when it seems to be a story about Marty and Rust and this part of the story was about Marty's family and the impact he was having on them.
