Just slightly retool WoW. Let everyone keep their current servers but make it a shard system where the only quest hub/Raid location is Goldshire on the most debauche RP server. Sell the night elf whores and sex toys for the current RP crowd and forget me nows for everyone else who is just trying to pass through for epic loot. Micro transactions for in game items and Blizz gets to break into the pharmaceutical industry.

Enjoying Pokemon or not enjoying pokemon defines your maturity levels these days? So I guess you only play 'mature' games? You aren't sitting on a forum about MMO's with the number one MMO being World Of Warcraft? WoW being a pretty childish game in a lot of areas... Also having a similar game in it to pokemon.. So you think 99% of the people on this board are childish because they have played or play WoW...

It depends when you were born. If you were born in the 70s/80s, it might seem more "childish" since by the time it hit, since they were in their 20s/30s. By that same token, said 70s/80s demographic loves the shit out of stuff like Transformers and Thundercats ;P

I'm in my early 30s and anytime someone brings up Pokemon I laugh because to me it's a silly childrens game. It's like a kiddy version of Magic to me. I will admit to never knowing anything about it, but when it was popular I was in high school and the people playing it were like in 4th grade or something and there was a shitty cartoon on TV as well.

Ha, I thought this as well. I thought Pokemon was just a card collection like the Marvel Cards I collected in 4th grade. It was a long time later that I found out it was an actual game.

It's been a long, long time since I played Pokemon (probably 10 years?) but the reason I enjoyed it was because it reminded me of old school NES/SNES RPGs like the Final Fantasy games. It just had the added feature of addictive collecting.
I have no idea if it's been changed into more of a Yu-Gi-Oh or whatever the fuck kiddie card game, but the original versions of Pokemon were solid, old-school style RPGs, albeit with a more kid-friendly wrapping.

I really don't care about the pokemon IP, but the core gameplay mechanics are clearly tailor made for an MMO format.

If you've never played any of the games (the only ones I played were red/blue aka the very first ones way back in the late 90s) and all you think of when someone says Pokemon is the IP aimed towards children, then yeah, I can see the skepticism.
But read up on pokemon gameplay, you'll see. Its probably one of the most easily and readily adapted to MMO format gameplay systems out there. That's the point. It wouldn't take much effort to make a decent pet capture/level/battle MMO in the mechanical vein of pokemon.
