Well now hopefully people know not to buy games from those devs. They obviously care more about patting themselves on the back than the actual players. Lets just screw over gamers who bought a rift because one guy has different political views!

I'm not voting for Trump, and I think it's BS the devs are doing this.

anyone still using their VR headsets a lot? My oculus is more dusty than clintons vagina

i'm going to cancel my playstation VR, with battlefield 1, infinite warfare, mafia 3, watch dogs 2, and FF15 this fall I'd rather play those games than shitty 2 hour VR "experiences"

I haven't played my Vive in a couple months. It's partly due to remodeling my kitchen, so my entire house is a disaster right now, partly because I have to clear an area of my living room when I do want to play and partly because I am starting to realize that I don't really want to stand up and walk around when I game. I'm in good shape, but I find that I much prefer lounging on my couch to game even though the room scale experiences are really fucking awesome. The uncomfortable Vive headset doesn't help. All the adjusting in the world and it still kind of annoys me after 15 minutes.

I sold my Oculus CV1 days after I got it. I made a profit and don't regret buying it, but even if that option wasn't available I doubt I'd play it much. It just doesn't cross the very high threshold needed to be worth it over a traditional experience.

Once the refresh rate, FOV and resolution are better, I'm sure it'll be huge. I still think the #1 missing feature that will make everything click will be eye tracking and foveating rendering.

One thing I learned playing Skyrim is that even if the HMD was 8k resolution, you would just notice how low resolution the textures are and how they look like a soupy mess in VR, where as they look crisp on a screen. So you not only need an 8k resolution, you need a massive increase in graphical fidelity for realistic looking games.

In other words, VR has a lot of promise and the first generation really moved it from a tech demo to a usable device for certain cases, but it's not for me yet.

Amazing AR SDK.

The Vuforia Cloud Recognition Service is a scalable solution that hosts and manages image targets. It is a way for developers to unlock experiences connected to a large target database in the cloud. The new Cloud Recognition Web API enables you to add image recognition to any connected application or web page. It’s a simple REST API that allows you to submit an image and returns back a list of matching results, from anything like a book cover to a wine label. This enables a scalable and fast recognition, anywhere in the world, on any connected device.

Can we make a list of the developers doing this? It's time to boycott anything they make as consumers. This is ludicrous.

The Irony of Zuckerberg creating an army of SJWs that go on to shit on companies he owns is a nice giggle.

I'm pretty pissed that the Nexus 6p isn't Daydream compatible even though it is currently being used to develop the goddamn platform. $79 seems like a great price to try out phone VR.

Haven't used mine in ages but I'm still going to shell out the $200 for the Touch controllers.

I'm not quite following why VR has to equate motion-controller. Sure for any title which is first person VR it makes sense to have motion control be in the mix, but it hardly seems necessary. Afterall we've been playing first person games for ages using just a controller or keyboard/mouse so I fail to see why we couldn't play those same first-person titles using a controller.

Similarly there should be, I'd think, a big market for non-first person VR games. Think of a god-sim like Populous where you really do have the perspective of a god and can look down on your creations, or an over-the-shoulder 3rd person game like WoW where you can make use of VR to have a much larger field of view.

I feel that far too many developers are thinking of VR as a head-mounted holodeck when they could and should be thinking of other ways in which content can be displayed. Think of everything you do now as staring out a magical picture window sitting on your desk, but now you can walk outside and see not just a postage stamp view, but everything in all directions.

One of the games that ships with the rift, Lucky's Tale, has the kind of overhead isometric view that Populous has. I think we'll see some form of God games with VR, but a key thing here is that 3d objects far away look flat (even in the real world). You can compensate this by having a wider IPD, but that just makes everything look miniaturized. It'll still be cool to play SimCity where the view is like looking at a large table with structures.

As for touch controllers, they're not for me because I think they are imprecise, require more effort to manipulate but worst they don't have feedback. So your hands float through objects you're manipulating. But they make complete sense in VR. In VR when you can see your hands moving around with you it dramatically increases the presence which is the key spectrum that makes the whole experience work as a next level media interface device. But I'm still looking forward to the next gen VR being used with my mouse and keyboard.

Serious Sam VR is now out for the Vive, in early access. Picked it up, it's definitely one of the most polished feeling games I have so far. 180 degree only so no enemies from behind, initially I didn't think it'd feel right but I now think it actually works quite well. Since you're not fighting the headset cord all the time you do get to focus on the game and the hordes of enemies.

It's more of an action shooter than some of the zombie shooters (which I would say are more scary/tense/horror games - do we have a proper name for this type of game yet?). I'd let my 10 year old niece play this over Horde Z.

There's not many levels so far but more will be added.
