As for why the West are pushing for war in the midst of a financial crises, well, it's the age old method for distracting people from the problems at home. Create a common enemy that the people can rally around and they'll put up with shit they otherwise wouldn't. It's been going on at least since the Roman times.
I can't imagine this is the case. Even our dumbest citizens see how retarded this is. This seems to be a pretty unanimous "what the fuck is Obama doing" moment. Honestly, I see this being a catalyst for WWIII. At the very best, we're basically giving Al Qaeda a whole county with a fuck load of WMD's. There's no winning here as it's all just a fucking terrible idea.

Those are two good articles that Fanaskin linked! This all has sweet fuck all to do with "humanitarian" issues. If it did the US would have bombed the shit out of Saudi-Arabia decades ago.

It's all about oil (and gas).

I'm not sold on the oil angle. I'm sold on Obama not keeping his big mouth shut and now he has to actually follow through with some bullshit he said.

Though the oil thing is always a nice backup.

I view it as converging interests, people make conspiracies out to be like dr claw sitting there plotting evil against inspector gadget, it's really just rational actors with converging interests.

every nation and it's leaders can be shown to have different interests and not all of them are directly about oil but many of them converge

It's also a matter of both sides actually being bad in this case, and it's almost scarier if the rebels win and get hold of those chemical weapons than if Assad sits on them and makes threats. One way or another, someone is going to end up in control of at least those weapons, if not all of Syria. Neither side is a good option, so there's a genuine security risk.

That being said, we're going to fuck this up. I'm positive about that.

I would agree with you but Merlin is all for this war, so not even our stupidest citizens think it's retarded, says more about Merlin than anything else.

Secretary of State John Kerry said at Wednesday's hearing that Arab counties have offered to pay for the entirety of unseating President Bashar al-Assad if the United States took the lead militarily.

"With respect to Arab countries offering to bear costs and to assess, the answer is profoundly yes," Kerry said. "They have. That offer is on the table."

Asked by Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) about how much those countries would contribute, Kerry said they have offered to pay for all of a full invasion.

"In fact, some of them have said that if the United States is prepared to go do the whole thing the way we've done it previously in other places, they'll carry that cost," Kerry said. "That's how dedicated they are at this. That's not in the cards, and nobody's talking about it, but they're talking in serious ways about getting this done.

Yeah so we hire out America's army now to fight wars for Arab oil leaders?

Sounds like a great plan. Let's become the mercenary nation!

Being Saudi Arabia's mercenary army is appealing but I feel like if we engaged at a large scale we'd be holding all the responsibility and cost.
