His mansion is probably built to withstand 1000 mile an hour winds and being submerged 100 meters. He's not doing anything brave here.

But the chance that a bunch of dumb asses drown because they took shelter in the lowest point of the property is something to keep an eye out on!

I know for a fact it was Cat 5 capable when built if it is the place I remember seeing in articles.
Then again I could build a tornado proof house that is 100% likely to work until a tornado hits it.

Amending what I said before. Family down in PR saying shit went on lock-down, the ghost-town stage. Bayamon/San Juan metro low-lying areas are going to get it rough if it's the 10-15 surge they're forecasting.
San Jaun is now 4-6 feet. It had been 3-5 feet all along. I've linked endless maps and reasons why PR is only going to get minimal surge and at worst Cat 1 range winds. The whole island will see rain and TS winds though. The hurricane while stud as fuck has a fairly small hurricane wind force right now. Once that eye starts to weaken it is going to expand but it isn't supposed to do that until Bahamas.
This is the current wind field off NOAA. PR while will have some issues really lucked out here.

If it had been on just south of the island, there wouldn't be much of PR left.

Holy shit!

Apparently they got it landed, refueled and loaded, and off the ground in 52 minutes.

Yeah, but unless Jose just stalls where it is for a few days, Irma will push it off into the Atlantic.

There was a model yesterday that showed it doing a circle motion due to Irma and taking a swing at the islands that just got hit. Today, the Euro has it doing the circle and not even coming close to them. It's still early.

I bet it ends up feeling like a cold 84. The wind chill is likely to be quite low.

And that's the REAL reason we button up our homes, to hide from frostbite from the windchill.

I've got most my shutters up tonight, 2 windows, 2 doors left, and then I'll help the neighbors. Sounds like most everyone around me is riding it out, mostly because there is not any gas left in south Florida, so if you hit the road and run out of gas, you are riding out a cat 3 or 4 in a ditch on the side of the road.

This one is such a crap shoot it's had to know what to expect. A little east and it's like Matthew last year - nothing. A little west and we catch the full fury of a cat 4's NE quadrant for hours - lots of destruction and down for weeks. We had the eye go over us for 20 minutes during Wilma, and that was creepy. Everyone came outside to check on neighbors and look up to see the blue sky be the backside hit.

I'm over in Lee County, and that's how it is here. Everyones kinda hanging out, we've all got shutters and stuff up. Feels like we'll get almost nothing, but if it goes into the Gulf we'll get erased. Everyone here still remembers eating Charlie in the face unexpectedly.

I'm coastal Palm Beach county. So we are screwed almost any way this thing goes. The good news is almost everyone I'm talking to is taking it serious and seems to be prepared. But Wilma was our last big one and that was 12 years ago, so lots of new people and lots to forget.

We have a new division manager at work who has never been in a hurricane, he sent an email today reminding everyone that since the hurricane is hitting Sunday, this week and next week are 'business as usual'. I guess he got tired of seeing people talking about it or their lack of supplies. He seems to think it's a 4-6 hour event, then things are normal again. He honestly believes that Monday after this, we'll all be back at the office like nothing happened. Sadly, he has decided to flee the area, so he will still not experience first hand the destruction and chaos that follows.

That is fucking scary

Unbelievable. I stood outside in the brunt of 'Hurricane Sandy' in New Jersey in 2012... for fun. We considered it cool and novel to go stand in the storm and lean against the wind of it..... for pics.

That shit there in that video is insane. I am scared for all of Florida now. Sandy was absolutely nothing compared to that. I went outside with a camera and filmed Sandy. I wouldn't be anywhere near the 'outside' if that thing was on top of me.

Atheist prayers to all the Florida-bros here.
