I'm in clearwater, hangin out. Seeing good gems like this on fb:

What was her answer, I couldn't make it out. I imagined the answer was something about drugs and that she just fucked her 4th cousin. But something tells me the real answer is probably funnier.

She said one storm a body floated down the street and blocked the drain and then looked at the driver and said you'll float too.

Was hoping it was a bunch of people in the morgue.
Some of the libs on my twitter feed that is always talking about peace, love, diversity are now bitching about looters and scum and chopping them up and feeding looters to alligators. Morpheus works in weird ways in the matrix.

It's always peace love and harmony until someone is taking shit you care about then it's death and destruction.

I feel like they major bombed this. This is why people don't evacuate. Past couple days they are talking about this thing going to Alabama and it's going out to the Atlantic

Bombed because of the extent of damage or because lack of deaths etc?

Seems like all the right measures were taken and if not for the evacuation we'd probably be seeing a much higher death toll.
Still tons of damage took place, even if just landscaping/shingles/etc... Some Cranes in Miami, roadways in the keys, etc. Infrastructure/power grid..
And tons of people are powerless right now.

I don't know what you people were expecting? The point of preparing is to get out of harm's way. Seems like it worked.

Just cause your house didn't get plowed doesn't mean it was a fail.

I work at a construction company, our vice president was in FL during all of this, escaped on Saturday, his first thought was "Everyone might be a lot more appreciative of US building codes after this". It'll be overlooked of course, but he's not wrong. Our structures are much more resilient now than in the past, primarily due to regulations.

I feel for Cuba, who dove in front and took the first shot for Florida.

Yeah I don't get why people are thinking this was embarrassing for the weather guessers. Did the hurricane not hit land? Was it not a big motherfucker when it did? I don't know what cat it was when it hit, but they weren't exactly saying it'd be a cat6e.

The worst prediction was the number of deaths. If that's what people are worried about, they need to look at some flooding pictures and get over the whole "too many people lived" thing.

I think the changes made to the codes after hurricane andrew probably helped a lot. Most of the buildings that were previously wrecked in that era of storms and new construction are built to some of the strongest codes in the country specifically to survive big hurricanes. The fact the storm took a few lucky jogs that limited a lot of the mass storm surge issue helped a lot too. Building codes don't help when you get 10 feet of extra water but thankfully the at least for fort meyers and tampa they were on the right side of the wind to help limit the surge a lot more than they could have hoped for coming into this.

Our king is visiting St Maarten (or what's left of it) so everything will be ok. He doesn't wear a crown but I'm sure you can guess which one is him.
They're estimating a billion in damage and we're footing that bill. :/

While he's there he also cleared up a few other issues.

Work is calling us in tomorrow, but not sure if we have power as 60% of the county is out. They are also saying it could take weeks to restore power.

Utilities prioritize centers of commerce first I imagine for power restoration. Joe Shmoe on dead end lane usually ranks last in terms of power restoration priorities.

Assuming it did massive damage to the power grid. The mobilization of utility workers is the largest in US history. They are also spending big bucks on rapid response road crews to repair and clear roads, especially in the keys.
Now they have deployed an aircraft carrier to the keys. Makes me think the damage there may be more severe than the live feeds we were able to see showed. That is what happens when you call something 100 miles long one thing.

Aircraft carrier is rushed to the hurricane-battered Keys

My wife has to go in but I was given the option to take off if needed. I'll clear my emails in the morning and break out the chainsaw.

I'm surprised by the gate on my fence. It fought like a champ all night and managed to stay together thanks to a master lock I've had since '94. The pushing caused the bar at the bottom to dig a trench. The section next to it blew out on the tail end of the storm. Overall we got lucky. Aside from a few large branches, the big trees falling over went the other way (thanks West coast for taking it instead of the East). I can repair my fence easy since it's a break-a-way and designed to come apart. Other than that I just need to get insurance to work with me on the lost shingles. We only lost power for a second early on and it was fine after that.

P.S. the pine branch at the bottom of the panoramic was what I thought was a dead bird in my yard. I swear in the middle of the night it was black and looked like feathers. :)

Even with a flashlight it looked black in the storm. I was looking at it from inside through a wet window. I guess I need to invest in an atomic light that can be seen from two nautical miles away....

Rechargable spotlight, they actually come in really handy. I keep one handy cause I used to live in an area with no streetlights or nothing for miles. In a storm it's nice to see what is hitting the house and such. But thru a window you would wind up blind inside off the glare.

If you keep the blinds closed and stick a flashlight out of the bottom and peek out of the top it works well... Not well enough to prevent you from mistaking a branch for a dead bird though
