Ya it's all a bitch for everyone there but god damn like 80% of the southern half of the state could have been completely level'd if some things had gone down just slightly differently. Given what this hurricane was what happened was probably pretty close to best case scenario.
Someone from gov released some article/statement yesterday that Irma was 25 miles off track from an additional 140 billion in damages. It was considering many things best case. Cuba saved the Keys, as did Irma taking 11 days to get on with it. If it had slammed in the same spot at it's peak it would have really shit things up. If it had hit under Miami at that strength it would be thousands dead as would it if it had been 50 more miles off shore up the west coast. The flooding in Jacksonville seems odd to me the most out of it aside from the fact it took down power to what 9 million people in 2 states. AT&T thinks MM20 is why cell service is dead but had issues reaching it. I think they finally got there today. Pretty sure it was surge damage. Power may be tricky but they still saying just another week to pave that road and get power going. That's pretty impressive response.

There is some pretty good sites with pictures floating around, Weather Channel if you can stomach the stupid ass adds every 3 pictures is one of them with about 700 pictures and 30 videos on it's site. Is some others. Sadly since AT&T is down in Keys they are having to bring them out and upload so there is a delay.

Based on initial estimates, 25% of the houses on the chain of islands have been destroyed, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Tuesday. Another 65% suffered major damage.

If you want AC you have to go to work. This is how Bernie can still win in 2020.

Still no power west of Orlando. Had a huge oak split and fall on half my barn. Did not collapse it but damaged the roof. Several other trees down but otherwise good. Now we wait for power....

Sounds like a freight train racing a jet plane.

Really? I have never been in truly dangerous and bad weather. But I have heard so many who have describe what it sounds like this way.

I am guess, it not only sounds that way, it feels that way?

Just trying to imagine. Where I am, it's sudden really bad snow storms and bitter wind. But I have zero concept of what an even 50 mph wind would be like being in the middle of.

When I was in Hurricane Charley's eyewall it sounded like saw blades cutting through my roof by my ear was next to the blade cutting. Shit gets loud

Only been in tropical storms but I have been in 3 tornadoes 1 of which I was 100% certain was the end. I had been napping and had the day off and we had 30% chance of rain that day with a slight chance of severe weather. I went to take a nap in the afternoon. I woke up just after 3pm I think it was to the COW sirens going off. I sat up , ran to the front door and opened it about the same time the sky turned brown then green. I grabbed my 2 cats and headed to the only room without a window. This was in 1998. There was a 12 pack of coke in there so I opened one and drank about half to help wake up, only about 2 minutes had passed since the sirens waking me. I heard a roar like factory full of machinery running, then the house started to shake. The half full can of coke on the tile floor started dancing around and finally knocked itself over. I could hear windows breaking and what felt and sounded like a sledgehammer hitting the house. It seemed like an hour. It was about 2 minutes. Silence. I open the bathroom door. I could see the light of the sky through my ceiling. Softball sized hail lay in the living room, having punctured the shingles, plywood, and plaster ceiling on lathe. Glass everywhere. I go outside and while the house was brick, the gables were vinyl siding. No more. Piles of plastic chips lay at the foundation, the neighbors house which was all siding was down to the old 1x2 asbestos shingles underneath.

I was a full time roofer at that time. I spent the next 4 days 24 hours a day tarping houses and putting up plywood on windows and the next 4 months working 7 days a week. I'll never forget that roar though or the house shaking so much as to knock over a bottom heavy can of soda.

It was amazing how fast out of town dent repair shops showed up and something like 18,000 cars lost windows or were hail damaged. The hail was so large and destructive many homeowners got allowances or replacement of their brick due to large chunks knocked out of it. Everyone got a new roof and many new windows/siding. Up until that time our city had maybe 1 Mexican roofing crew. Now that is about all there is. They stayed, undercut everyone until out of business. Now they control prices and it is jacked up high. The group leaders speak decent English and are citizens. None of the actual workers are.

Near the end you can see as he drives by rows of battered cars

Story, pictures, 1/2 billion in damage in 98 in our small town.
Ten years after the storm

Glad you guys in Florida made it out relatively unscathed. Charleston didn't get blasted, and I didn't catch it here in Greenville other then some heavy rains and wind, but nothing that was scary.

Oldbased Oldbased what's the current status on Jose? I'm going to be in Charleston next weekend for my dad's wedding, and I'm wondering if shit's going to end up getting canceled. You've been better then the MSM, and I'd appreciate any updates you can provide.

All spaghetti models have it doing the loop and up and out to sea. UKMET still shows southern Florida impact in 5 days or so but it is the only one showing that. All other models have it heading out to sea or just doing loops. All data says it will remain a cat 1 or less at this time.

As for weather. From now until Sunday night Charleston will get less than a half inch of rain, appears on Saturday but being it is scattered showers that may or may not happen.

Made it back to cape coral tonight. What should have been a 9 hour drive took about 16. Accidents fucking everywhere. Lots of power out on the way down 75 which gets dark as all fuck. Especially when no moon.

House pretty fine. One blown out screen and a bunch of palm fronds. Lots of bigger northern trees down on the street. One of those fucking things took down a power line coming into the neighborhood so still no power. They have power up till that point too like 1/4 mile up the road. Fuckers with tees that can't withstand hurricanes. Hopefully not out for too long because my balls can't take this much sweat. Florida too dam humid

Boss said work faired ok but no power yet.

That guy who had the livestream going up until the second the surge came in the Keys is finally back on limited service. More of a status update for Edko of the area. Sounds miserable. Gas that is there is ruined. No water, no power. Sounds like lots of FEMA, NG in area so looting should be controlled well.
