That's a conundrum. Shit food happens to be way cheaper. It's much less expensive to go to McDonald's and feed your family off the dollar menu than it is to go to the supermarket and buy fish or chicken and make an actual meal. Whatever the cause, it's an epidemic.

So last night I wanted to see how far I could job without slowing down. I surprised myself and my fa ass went for 3 miles before slowing.

Now my thighs and lower back are killing me.

I hate running.

Of course, but how much of that is the result of government subsidies?

Tarrant, I hope you weren't straight sprinting for 3 miles, that's actually dangerous. And also not really that beneficial towards weight loss.

Running really isn't a great form of cardio, in all honesty. It's hard on your joints and back. Some people just aren't physiologically meant to run. Cycling, rowing, swimming, or even rollerblading might all be better options.

If any of those were options, I may explore them.

Come winter I'll join a gym, but not until it's to cold outside to do it.

Plus im seeing results and I like the pace at which I'm getting those results. I'll continue doing what I'm doing until I don't get those results.

I keep telling my wife that. Stop using the treadmill and use the bike or elliptical. But she's going to the gym and losing weight which is a huge improvement as is, so I don't really push it.

If someone was recreationally running, I'd be more concerned.

I use the elliptical, right now I'm doing 4 miles per day alternating between 7 and 14 resistance every 4 minutes. It has been really good for me and I don't get back/joint/whatever aches. I know a lot of the guys here have shittalked ellipticals and machine weights and stuff, but it does work for those of us who are not yet Dwayne Johnson. Some people do have issues staying motivated doing stuff indoors, that isn't much of a problem for me.

Yeah I really enjoy being outside and I use ellipticals as well when I go to the gym. I warm up on them for about 20-30 minutes before I then go and do weights.

Being fat though, I like being outside because if I'm inside part of me just wants to relax or go chill in the hot/tub or pool.

As a side note, Dwayne Johnson actually uses an elliptical for cardio. The more you know.

Because I have to take my kids with me to the gym I take it seriously. Like, I have about 1.5 hours and am on a schedule so I know I have to get through X weights and Y cardio and have zero time to waste. It motivates me.

Wife and I have been considering how to handle that. She gives birth soon and we'd like to continue working out but the kid will provide serious scheduling problems. All we've come up with is we either continue going to the gym(separately or on lunch breaks) which is kind of a hassle; or we buy home gym equipment, which I imagine will be overpriced(in the short term) and inadequate for anyone wanting to do even moderate weight training.

Your gym doesn't have child care? Look around for one that does would be my suggestion. It will be a nice break fr you guys, also. But those places normally won't accept kids until at least 6-8 weeks. In that timeframe I would switch off, but the gym probably won't be your priority at first. Sooo fucking tired.

Oh yeah, I'm well prepared for the "fuck it" response. And no, it's a planet fitness, it doesn't have childcare. I'm paying $928/month for childcare, I don't want to consider what some boutique gym in an area probably not even big enough to support said niche(Ithaca) would cost.

I'm working out mainly to support/nag my wife and for the health benefit for myself. The secondary benefit is that my wife has said she likes how I look with more musculature, and I don't want to go back to a scrawny-looking 160lbs 6'.

Going to the gym always motivates me more than working out at home, regardless of the equipment. The only thing is a bike or elliptical is nice to have at that house, can do morning/evening cardio while watching TV or whatever (loved playing PS3 while on bike. A couple levels in and you're like I've been biking for an hour!) And I'm not trying to be a dick saying she better lose that mommy weight or anything. but after having the kid, it will benefit you both if she works out once able, both physically and mentally. I'd make her working out a priority over you working out, especially since most of the stress is on her.

You're paying $928/month for CHILDCARE?!

Holy FUCK.
There were cheaper options, maybe $150 less a month, but they noticeably farther away from our workplaces or one of them was unlicensed.

What did you think childcare would cost?

Child care for my 3 kids would cost 2400 per month. Shit is crazy expensive. This is why my wife is a stay at home mom.
