Skinnyfat is the term used for people who are skinny but are horribly out of shape from malnutrition or lack of exercise, pretty much only skinny because they starve themselves.

Lay off the ranch and friend chicken strips and no, it's not.
It can be.

15 Salads Worse Than A Big Mac

^ this motherfucker has 860 calories, uses grilled chicken, and has a vinaigrette dressing. Uneducated fatty says "This is healthy, I won't get that unhealthy burger!" which actually has like 300 fewer calories. This was literally the first google result from a big chain, this is why I say education is important and shouldn't be diminished.

Your last several posts are like the inner monologue of a fat person trying to rationalize why he/she's tried time and time again to get into shape but failed over and over. It's not the fact that he/she lacks willpower and binge eats on Saturday night! It's because it'sso difficultand people justdon't understandthe drastic changes that are required!

The one thing I agree with you about is that mentality plays a big part. A person stuck in this "always an excuse" mentality will never get into shape. It takes a "fuck it, I'm going to do this no matter what" attitude to do it, and those are the people who are successful.

*Edit* On the topic of ordering calorie-dense salads, nowadays most major fast food chains post calorie counts on their menus and put them on the products themselves. There really is no excuse for ordering something with 900 calories when you clearly see it written there.

Both things are true. It is difficult and it does require willpower. It requires someone saying "I AM going to do this" and having some kind of plan and having the willpower and support to stick to that plan.

On Alton Brown's podcast he said something which I have really tried to adopt into my life. He said he never says that he doesn't have time to do something anymore. Instead he says "That's not a priority for me." Just the simple change of phrase really changes the meaning of what you are saying. Instead of saying "I don't have time to exercise" if you say "It isn't a priority for me to exercise" you are much closer to the truth, it takes away the small lies people tell to make themselves feel better about their shortcomings.

In other words, they're not making excuses for their behavior?

Skinny fat is a term reserved for people who don't eat much, and aren't fat, but when they do eat they eat a lot of sweets or otherwise unhealthy food. They just don't eat much so they don't look obese. Eating a healthy diet with minimal exercise (not much more than a normal daily routine) will put you in the "fit" category. You will not be as defined or athletic as someone who has an exercise regimen but you will not be skinny fat either.

Body going after unused muscle? It only does that when it's in starvation mode.
That's actually almost exactly what I associate with skinnyfat. You're skinny but don't have any muscularity.

Basically this:

Skinnyfat is the term used for people who are skinny but are horribly out of shape from malnutrition or lack of exercise, pretty much only skinny because they starve themselves.
I posted this a few months ago, but it's a girl who basically did the whole "burn more calories than you eat through cardio" and she ended up skinnyfat.

If that is what they were doing before, then yes. Saying something isn't a priority isn't necessarily a negative thing, it is just more honest. I have a really busy life and as much as get into shape is a priority for me, getting to the gym every day isn't because I have other stuff going on that is more important. It is what it is.

That's a textbook excuse. "I don't have time for the gym. My life is too hectic to get into shape."

There is always a way to get some exercise, even if it's just 10 minutes here and there throughout the week.

Haven't really read through this thread but I'll say I'm at my all time thickest at 205lbs 5'11''. At age 23-24 I was at 175 (from 185) feeling amazing and working out 4-5 times a week and really starting to get into cardio along with my fast improving ways of lifting, I was on my way to ottermode from chubbyfat. Now I'm between builtfat and chubbyfat on that chart above. My goal is to be at 185 lean. My plan so far has been to lose out on needless carbs but I still consume them. I snack on healthier stuff like yogurt and fruits/veggies and I actually went from 200lbs to 205 from what I feel is muscle gain although my waist line does seem a bit leaner. My cardio is shit right now, I'm huffing and puffing at about 1 mile, but my weight lifting has been on the upswing. I'll post a pic later and this can help me keep track a bit hehe.

Bro, I do have time for the gym. It just isn't a priority every day. That isn't an excuse, that is me being honest. Why do I give a fuck? I'm making really good progress and not giving up or making excuses, and the things I have that are bigger priorities to me than getting in shape, like my family or my school, are getting taken care of.

I'm agreeing with you. It's accepting your "failure" or whatever instead of making an excuse for it...which is what people need.

I like those motivational speeches/pictures (have a pic/quote on my second monitor and have the Arnold speech bookmarked). They tell me that there IS something I can do. If I'm too busy to make it to the gym, I walk up/down my stairs for 30 minutes at home or do dips and crunches while watching TV, or hell, I'll jog in place or do jumping jacks while cooking or whatever. But I know that I need to stay active and watch my cals, so I will find a way to do it, regardless of my schedule. Whether its adjusting my schedule to make time for health, or finding creative ways to compensate. It becomes a fun challenge after a while.

No one ever climbed the ladder of success with their hands in the pocket (damn Arnold grammar).

Bros how can I convince my wife that running isn't all that great? I'm trying to get her into weight lifting but she won't listen to me, she thinks she knows best. She walks all day at work and then believes we should run for 40 minutes every night and I absolutely hate that shit. The only reason I go is because we live in a not great area and don't want her going alone. Should I just show her the Staci stuff, or is there some science I can show her that will tell her she will be in 100% better shape if she does weight training?

My current form. Haven't done a whole lot of anything. Was in a relationship for 3 years and put on 25lbs(!). 5'11'' 203ish. Looking to get to 185 and much leaner within the next 6 months.

Tell her it hurts your knees and you're worried about her out alone. Do you guys have a gym membership? Do elliptical or something together. I've also done aerobics/zumba/whatever videos at home with women. As long as you're being active together, should be fine.

For weight training, I'd probably try to get her to ramp up gradually. Replace one night a week of running/cardio with weights, or some routine that incorporates weights, then work it up from there. Trying to get a woman to do a, instant 180 on what she believes is futile. Best to introduce gradually.

I'm right about exactly where you are. 5'10", 210 lbs, pretty much the same body type. I really want to start stepping it up in the gym but "it isn't a priority right now!"

My goal is to hit 175 and be in good enough shape to steal Noodleface's angry wife. By April of next year is the time limit I have given myself for that, that will be a year since I got back into the gym and reigned in my diet. But I hope to hit it sooner than that, really.

Did you show her the pics of Stacy? That chick's body is out of fucking control. Try to hide your throbbing erection while you explain to her that hey, this is what we should be aiming for.

In April we will have a duel. If you win she's yours. If I win, I get to wear your skin as a suit. Take it or leave it.

Get that bitch a bicycle, bitches love bicycles.

Running is awful for your knees as BoldW said so that would be my excuse but maybe cause I'm a cyclist i'm biased but biker girls always have amazing asses/legs just cause it's all upper leg work outs plus all that cardio so if you are doing it for exercise you can stay in the heartbeat range to burn fat.
