I think that is just a feeling you have rather than anything real. The guy I work with, most of what he eats is not sweets. If I had to estimate I would say most of his calories come from carbs. Chips and shit. Dude will pound an entire bag of Doritos on a shift.

Sometimes, whether people want to admit it or not, the simpler answer is correct. Himeo is the same guy who would drink containers of garluc butter from Papa John's, and now because he read something online that wasn't the problem, it was sugar all along? Come the fuck on...

I admit I didn't watch the whole video (and I won't; I have no desire to spend an hour of my weekend on it) but from 10 minutes of flipping through, I see him talking about how sugar affects the energy density of foods. Reducing sugar and adding fiber, for example, eating yogurt with real berries instead of a sugary, berry-flavored jam, fills you up more but has less calories.

That's why so many people have gotten so fat from sugar. It's not because OMG SUGAR IS POISON. It's because replacing satiating, healthy things like fat and fiber with refined sugar leads to more calories in food that is less filling. Therefore, people eat more and take in more calories than they burn.

Yes, I agree with everything you've said (and I've said it several times in this thread). However, if you've read any of Himeo's recent posts he's basically saying that eating sugar is the sole reason people are fat ("sugar is poison"). That is absurd. It's a lot more complicated that that, just like it's a lot more complicated than "eat less, exercise more".

For instance the example of the guy that chaos mentioned. That guy isn't fat because he eats sugar, or any other scientific reason. He's fat because he eats way too fucking much! It's just like my 350+ pound coworker who sits in her cube next to me all day EATING. Literally, from 9 to 5 I never stop hearing the sound of bottles opening, chips crunching, and bags crinkling. WHAT she is eating is far less important than HOW MUCH she is eating.
The first video showed reducing carbs and replacing it with fat was statistically more effective over 6 months to a year as a dieting strategy. Spend an hour of your time and watch this to see why sugar is poison:

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant sweets you make yourself. So homemade pizza from base ingredients (including dough), but not including like a cake make the same way. But what the hell, throw sweets in there, you're probablystillbe better off in my opinion. Cooking yourself gives you full control, and I bet most people would naturally gravitate to better tasting healthy versions of the food they don't cook right now.

Or maybe, your assumptions are wrong and you should watch the video I posted breaking down the science of weight management. I'm not dropping my responsibility on this because it makes me feel better. You, me, and everyone that grew up with the nutritional advice of the last 35 years have been sold bullshit.

Also, I'm annoying you fuckers with this because I've lost a hell of a lot of weight eliminating one variable from my life. The weight continues to drop, without any effort on my part to do anything, really. I still eat whatever I want. I just don't eat sugar. No diet, no exercise, no counting calories, no effort at all and the weight continues to drain away.

Really? So you're still pounding entire pizzas and drinking hydrogenated garlic oil? I doubt it. But maybe, sure.

Watching some youtube videos and ignoring your own lifestyle choices don't amount to an education in nutrition.

True, I don't eat pizza or drink garlic oil anymore. Every morning for breakfast I have eggs and bacon with a quarter stick of salted butter and shredded cheese on top. For lunch I eat whatever I can find or order take out. At dinner, if I'm hungry (and most days I'm not), I go to a fast food restaurant like Carls Jr or Wendy's and have a burger, extra cheese, extra bacon, extra sauce, wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. My daily caloric intake is somewhere around 1800 calories a day and I feel like I'm stuffing myself on 6K calories or more. Some days I can't even finish the hamburger because I'm so full.

Don't have time to watch an hour long video? Here's something shorter for you.

So your calories in are less than your calories out? Color me shocked.

Calories in, calories out. That's the math behind weight loss. But a calorie of fat is not the same as a calorie of protein, which is not the same as a calorie of carbohydrate, which is not the same as a calorie of ethanol. When it comes to weight management, every calorie is different and what matters is what your body does with those calories. Hormones, motherfucker, that's where gains are won and lost.

Lower your insulin level, lose weight. What controls insulin? Sugar intake. Stop eating sugar, insulin drops, leptin shuts off hunger, and I walk around feeling like I'm stuffed 24/7. I eat as much as I want, whatever I want, and I lose weight. It's like magic. Except it's not, it's just biochemistry with a little knowledge thrown in and a tiny amount of self control.

Five months in, 50 pounds down, and another 150 to go. It's going to take a while but I'll get there.

Good for you.

But realistically, if you've got 200 pounds of excess weight, you could do just about anything besides your old "routine" and lose weight. You have an entire extra person in fat to lose.

That might have been something reasonable to suggest a few weeks into a new diet. But I'm five months in, and I've consistently lost about 10 pounds every month. Go watch the first video I posted comparing how effective different diets are long term. I'm not only on track, but I'm ahead of the curve compared to the most effective diet in that study, atkins.

So, no. I disagree with you. I don't think I could do "Just about anything" and still lose weight. I've tried so many diets before this and none of them worked for me because I couldn't stick to them. With those other diets, I'd be hungry all the time. With this one I'm never hungry. That makes all the difference.

I think the thing, and probably most will agree, is that you're actively monitoring your intake and weight. If you're consciously making an effort, it's not as if your making some "genetics" excuse or something. If you plateaux or notice your not losing, you can adjust. But again, you're actively participating in your weight loss.

And well, that's just great.

You're stubborn or dumb. Most likely both. I'm not going to add anything else to that, as just about all major points on why you're losing weight have been covered by multiple people, multiple times in this thread.

BTW, I seriously doubt your calorie "calculations" are even close to accurate....a fucking quarter stick of butter? Are you kidding me? Your diet is shit.

My calorie count may be off. Like I said, I'm not tracking them nor do I particularly care about them.

What do you have against butter?

Nothing against butter, just realize that's 200 calories right there, more than a supposed tenth of your daily diet. Your diet sounds fairly predictable. Most peoples are actually unless you eat out with other people a lot. So why not count calories? Once you get past the initial hump of entering recipes, it's quite easy to do. Might be helpful once you lose more weight and your maintenance calories drops to a more normal range. You're either going to have to eat less or workout.

What I thought I was eating in calories and what I was actually eating in calories was so dramatically different when I actually legitimately counted them. What your mind perceives as 1 serving in comparison to what 1 serving actually is most of the times is fairly humorous.

I'm about 2 months deep now of calorie counting and working out and I must say I feel fantastic. I Did leg workouts for the first time ever last Thursday and I couldn't walk for like 2 days, I ended up working out with an ex-military friend and I almost threw up and passed out during that leg workout. I'm quite excited to hit the gym again with him Tuesday.

The hardest part is counting calories, I just love food too much but I'm doing a really good job by using myfitnesspal.com.

Fuckers at work ordered like 8 pizzas at work the other night and it was so hard to only eat 1 slice so I could stay under my caloric intake, I was pretty proud of myself afterwards.

I think you're on a better track than you were certainly. I have no problems with eggs and butter. The bacon is fine too although I'd suggest getting something good quality and not overdoing it. The cheese and sauce I'd moderate too but overall I'm not surprised that you'd lose weight eating this way. You'll certainly feel more satisfied.

From here if you tried to eat higher quality less processed foods, add a bunch of veggies and you'd be improving even more.

I'm hovering around 190 Pounds and I'm 6'5'' so I think I'm about right now, I was over 240 a few years ago and have been going up and down ever since. My diet rules have developed to:
*No fat unless it is attached to an animal (fast food).
*No sugar unless it is attached to a fruit (chocolate, cola).
*No carbohydrates unless it is part of a meal (cake, chips).
*No fast food. Ever.
*No alcohol.
*Aim for 1800 calories or less if counting.

What really cracked it for me was going for a run every other day and gradually buillding up from running for a minute at a time to running for 20 minutes without stopping now, it has had a much bigger effect training up properly with a programme than doing half assed cardio at a gym. This is great for my lower body strength and I walk a good way to work every day to keep it up if I can't go running, but my upper body is awful. Does anyone have any tips for training my upper body and routine activities to keep it up if I stop training for any reason? How do things like protein suppliments work into this?

Weight loss has taken me from being shaped like a big potato to being shaped like a small potato, so I still look and feel "fat" just because of lack of muscle.
